Ebay? Someone won my item, and now wants to back out.

Hi,
Yes, another ebay question. I received an e-mail from a person who won one of my auctions. She said that she bid on the wrong item, and wants to back out, but is willing to pay my relisting fees. What would you do? Do most of you let people out of the contract. How do I even do that? How do I arrange for her to pay my listing fees. Can I do a re-list if I decide to let her off?
Thanks,
Sherri

If she is willing to pay the relisting fees, it would be a gracious thing to allow her to back out. We all make mistakes and she did make a reasonable offer to put things right. She can pay by Paypal or whatever method you had listed in your auction.

If you had another bidder who offered close to the same amount, you could just give them a second chance offer.

JMHO.

Is she also willing to pay your final value fees? As far as eBay would be concerned, the item sold. In addition to having to pay a fee to list a "similar item", you would also have a final value fee to pay to eBay for the "sold" item.

If the reluctant buyer is willing to reimburse you for ALL your expenses, then you can just ask her to send you a payment via PayPal or by Money Order in the amount that you're out. I would not accept a personal check.

To me, it sounds as if the buyer is trying to be as fair with you and avoid any negative feedback. I would give her the benefit of the doubt (as long as she agrees to pay all the fees).

To re-list the item, just go back to the original auction. Click the link to "sell a similar item". It's on the right side of the blue box at the top. Just click thru all the "continue" buttons and you will have relisted the same auction!

Was there more than one bid? If so you can always go to the second highest bidder.

Yes, there was more than one bidder. Can I just click the second offer button and be done with it, without having the other bidder pay anything?

Yes. :) By using the second chance offer you are still selling the item in *this* auction so you will not incur any additional fees or anything.

Hi,
If you do the second chance offer and it is accepted, you will be charged another final value fee. So you would have to file against the first person to get that back or you mentioned the first person was willing to pay your fees. Whatever you are most comfortable with. If you go to ebay and search Help for second chance offer, it will go over the process and the fees.
Just wanted to let you know, so you are not charged twice.
Good luck with it.

Wow. Thanks. Didn't realize they'd charge that twice. I'm still trying to think what to do...This is a big hassle over someone who didn't read the item before they bid.

I had a girl back out of a veil she bid on, she was extremely rude. I went through square trade- it was her first bid. I received absolutely no assistance, they sent her an email-big whoop, and then nothing. I haven't used Ebay since.

You can get your FVF's reversed by filing an unpaid item dispute and say that it was a mutual decision to not complete the sale.

Also realize that if you do a second chance that bidder does NOT have to buy the item.
