First of all... mods if we can't post this type of thing, please delete this thread and accept my apologies. :)

I have a brand new Tiffany & Co. vase with the Tiffany & Co. Made in England sticker still on it. I have the Tiffany gift box and bubble wrap which is sealed with Tiffany & Co. tape. I am considering selling it on ebay.

The problem is this vase is not on ebay anywhere, nor is it in completed listings. I know the retail value as it is still sold at Tiffany, but I don't know what to ask. It is not an outrageously expensive thing, but I have never sold on ebay before. My friend who has a LOT of really good feedback can list it for me.

This is a link to the vase, http://www.tiffany.com/shopping/ite...search_params=t+-s+0-p+5-r+103-x+&quantity=1&

If anyone has any ideas if this would sell, or what to price it at, please let me know. :) THANKS! :)

I don't know what to start it at, but anytime I am unsure of what something will sell for I don't put a "buy it now" on it, that way, the auction price will raise to market value.

I would start the auction at 1.00 with a reserve of 75.00 and a buy it now of 100.00

After 5 years of selling and buying on eBay, I think the market value is generally received as long as the item isn't too obscure. I think the other poster's idea of having a reserve is a good one.

I am a newbie at ebay as well and don't quite understand reserve. I understand that the item won't sell under your reserve price, but then why not start the auction at $75? I know there's a good reason, but I just haven't figure it out yet. Please explain..

Thanks

Sue

I always start my item at what I want to get for it. I will seldom bid on anything that has a reserve. I don't see the point in a reserve.

Me, too.

I've been ebaying for 8 years now and I hesitate bidding on auctions with a reserve. I prefer a starting price.

GL! I'm sure it will sell. :)

Thanks for all the advice everyone! Now... wanna here how I acquired this vase?

$5.00 at a garage sale!

YES $5!

You start it out low so it gets people interested. I have found more people will bid on items if they start at a buck with a reserve because it "looks" cheapier to them.

I usually start eBay items at $9.95. Items worth less are not worth the time and effort packing them for shipment.

If the vase does not fetch much over $9.95 chances are it is really not worth much over $9.95 today and tomorrow despite what you paid for it.

Definitely highlight that the original stickers are still on it and that you have all of the original packaging etc. Even though this is a "used" vase, it's still Tiffany & Co! Making sure that your potential buyers know that you have these "extras" for a used item demonstrates the added value of what you're offering.

I also agree about starting it low and having a reserve price that you can live with as well as a Buy it Now price. Starting low does attract a lot of attention. Lots of people with no real intention of buying at a reasonable price will put low ball bids on it but the # of bids will in turn attract more attention. As long as the bidding stays below your reserve price, the Buy it Now option will still be available which is nice because it gives the serious buyer a chance to purchase and not have to hassle bidding and waiting 'till the end.

If you have room in the title, include the new retail value $. Also make sure you say what the retail value is in the item description. I'm not sure if it's allowed in Ebay or not but you can also put in the same link that you did above as proof of the retail price. Take and use your own picture of the vase for the auction however. I've also had success with including info about Buy it Now in my item description (Buy it Now for %50 off the original retail price, etc).

Good luck to you!

Chereya :)
