Hi Everyone.

I recently started selling my kids clothes on Ebay. My first shipment went out and I already got an e-mail from the person saying the pajamas are too small for her son. He wears the size I listed but these will not fit him, she wants to return them.

Should I take them back?

Nope. It's not your fault they don't fit him. Thats the risk you take when buying clothes on ebay.

But thats just me.

I agree with pp. If you listed them as the correct size, then you shouldn't need to take them back. Unless they had shrunk dramatically, in which case you would have needed to disclose that info.

Tough call - I tend to agree with the AP but ultimately it's up to you. If you DO take them back, make sure you are refunding ONLY the cost of the item. It still had to ship out and back, and that should be her cost, not yours, esp. since she didn't double check measurements.

Thanks everyone. I think I will take them back less the cost of shipping, I can't help but think that maybe they shrunk since they were used pajamas. I don't want to take a chance of negative feedback when I'm only just starting to sell stuff. I'll have to mention that when I relist it. Now I just have to cross my fingers this person is honest and will return them to me quickly and in good shape.

Thanks!!!

What I do, is if I'm selling used clothing, I put in the terms area, that they are in used condition, and come as is. Ask all questions before bidding, as all sales are final.
This way, heaven forbid, if there is some reason the buyer doesn't like, want, doesn't fit, whatever...it's not my problem....
If I have made a mistake, and listed something incorrectly, then I would make a refund. Just try be brutally honest in your listings, so you can avoid the hassle later...happy selling...

I didn't even think of doing that. Now I know for next time. I'm still learning. I'm trying to make extra money for our Disney Trip next month so time is running out!

I've seen where some people selling used clothes actually give the "tag size" and then also measure and give those numbers. For instance....21" around the waist.

That way if you're the bidder you can measure your child and see if they will fit.

I've found that tag sizes are not a guarantee that something is going to fit my kids.....I seldom give them clothes as gifts because I'd rather they try them on. It's also the reason I seldom buy clothes off ebay, instead buying dress up things that are supposed to be too big, lol.

I would offer to process the refund only when you receive the item back in good shape.

That's fair and should prevent negative feedback from both sides.

absolutely do not refund until you receive it back!

personally i wouldn't take them back. you're not a store. you sold pj's in the size stated, she did not ask for measurements. she should list them herself if she's not happy.

beware there are people who will try to scam you for a 'partial refund', where not only do they keep the item, but you refund part of the purchase price. i state in my auction i do NOT do partial refunds at all.

I'm with castle creations- state all clothing is in used condition and is sold as is. I don't take an item back unless it turns out it was damaged and I missed it.

Also remember that Pjs are usually tight due to fire laws. They have to be snug or they have to be flame resistent. I know my with my kids that the pjs are very tight on their arms and I have to buy a size bigger for that reason. JMHO but I don't think you should take them back. She should have known that PJS run tight.
