eBay Question about Fees

Can someone please explain to me how this works? I am new to ebay and I have sold a few items. With each sell they took out a small amount for a fee. For example on one sale of $115.00 they took a $3.64 fee, which is fine. Then the end of the month rolled around and I had another fee of just over $25.00 come out of my Paypal for a monthly fee. Can someone explain why they charge you a fee on each transaction and then a monthly fee too? It's not a lot of money but it does add up.

Ebay charges a final value fee on the items - percentage depends on categories that the item was listed in. They roll them all up and charge you once a month. That is you paying for using the ebay site to sell things.
Then there are the paypal fees which get taken out of each transaction. Think of these as fees to accept credit cards as payment.

There isn't a monthly fee. Ebay used to charge you twice -- once to list and once when it sold, but they dropped the first charge. What you got charged for was the final value fees for all of your items -- they didn't take that $3.64 out at the time of the sale -- the entire amount the buyer paid was put into your paypal account. Then Paypal took a percentage off the top -- you may have noticed that you weren't able to get the full amount of what you got paid for the transaction. And then once a month, ebay totals the final value percentage for all the items you sold, and that's what the $25 was. If you don't sell anything in a given month, you'll still get an ebay statement, but it will say "$0 due."

The way that I see it is that the $3.64 was charged to me at the time that the person paid, and then the $25. or so came out at the end. So I'm guessing now that PayPal is charging the $3.64 at the time of the transaction and ebay charged me the $25. fee based on my sales. That's where I was confused, because I didn't realize that PayPal would charge. I understand why they do though!

If you are going to sell on eBay, you should read and understand the rules before taking the plunge. You can make some pretty costly mistakes if you don't know what you are doing.

There are SEVERAL fees that ebay charges
1. Listing fees, unless you have a free listing offer they charge you for each listing whether the items sells or not.
2,,When your item sells they charge you a final value fee, typically it is about 15 to 20% of what the item sells for.
3. Shipping fee that is a certain percentage of your shipping charges if you ship from home.
Papyal fee to receive incoming money which I think is3% of the funds received from the buyer.

Yes, you must really think about all these fees (and possible tax ramifications) prior to selling on ebay.
