Ebay & Pins?

My DH family just returned from WDW and brought back lanyards for the kids who were blissfully unaware of pin trading until now! We leave in 26 days and I was thinking of buying a lot of 40 for them on Ebay. How can I tell a good seller from a bad? I know to check feedback and stuff but I'm still a little leery.
We also decided to only trade with CM and to look for the Green lanyards too.

Check the Collectors thread for a list of good and bad ebay pin sellers.

Hi, how many kids do you have?

The pins are on the larger side so you don't want to put more than 5 or 6 on each lanyard otherwise it gets very heavy. If you only have two or three kids you might want to consider a smaller lot. I bought a 40 pin lot then found out that I had a ton of pins left over when we put them on the lanyards ; then I forgot them and the lanyards at home - doh!

I had great luck with a couple of ebay sellers but 26 days is cutting it close if you want to make sure you have the pins in time - let's face it even with referrals on e-bay there no guarantees of great service. I have bought things from people with great feedback and still waited weeks for my item - some of the sellers ship parcel post.

You may want to try mousepins online as you'll pay about the same as e-bay per pin and have a better chance of getting them in time. They have a grab bag with pins costing just under $2/ea plus shipping.

I sell pins on ebay when my kids are tired of them, etc. I have some for sale now and I have bought some on ebay. I stay away from lots of pins and go for individuals. The lots tend to include fakes.

Thanks for the tip to check the collectors board. Great info! My children are 9 & 6.5 I was going to try to get a lot of 30-40 for them to split up. I will now try to search ebay for some good deals. I feel much more informed after reading the collectors board! Thanks all!!

FYI, Pindy will ship to your resort, as will Chris (Mickeystreasure), they both shipped to my hotel for me and it worked out great! Thanks for checking out our thread on the Collector's Board, we work hard to keep it updated. Have fun pin trading!!

FYI, I bought a bunch of pins for DS10 & DD6 before our trip. They seemed to like and want to keep all of them! I made them pick 6 each to put on their lanyard to trade. I figure the next time we go back they will be a little older and willing to part with more. I agree that the lanyards get heavy.

I am wondering about them. my kids are young, so they just like nice pins, if it has there favorite characters on it, then it is fine. I want to buy a lot but am so afraid of the comments on some ebay sites.

My older kids did pin trading last year and I bought a lot of 30 off of ebay...15 each. The lot came with 2 sets of the disney characters that were dressed up like the Pirates of the Carribean. I think there were 7 of those. They kept those and traded the remaining 8. I just bought another lot of 30, so that each would have 10 each (our DD will do it this time too). I am sure that there are going to be a few that they are not going to want to trade. My kids are not doing this for a collectors standpoint, but just for a fun thing to do and I like it because it is almost as though they get a souvinear every time they trade. My kids only trade with the CM's...not other people. All the pins that I bought have the disney logo on the back.

we had the pins brought right to the hotel :)
we stayed at shades of green . the seller left them at the desk :)

I would just buy pins at the outlet down there if you cant find ones within your price range. I have made two trips now with my child eager to trade and while he traded legit pins, many of the ones he wanted in return turned out to be bootlegs or scrappers or whatever they are called now. In talking with a seriousl collector at one of the trading stations he said these pics are getting a new collection status of their own. I just buy cheap now and dont expect to get anything good during a trade in the parks. Have fun though! That is really what its all about.

I can recommend the seller retiredreadingspecialist on eBay. She sells lots of 40 pins for $69.99 w/free shipping, which makes them $1.75 apiece. Also, for each of her listings, she shows you exactly which pins you will be getting, which a lot of "lot" sellers don't seem to do. Oh, and I thought she shipped really quickly and the pins were packed well. Someone on another Disney board recommended her, and I was happy with her service.

My dh, ds and I kept a few pins for ourselves and I'm going to divvy up the remaining 30 between the 3 kids we'll have with us on our trip next week. :thumbsup2

Thanks, I think we're going to give it a shot. Just for fun, I do not want to buy scrappers but I am also not too concerned if the kids swap for them either. Thanks everyone!

The wife and I are not serious traders but we like to have a few pins to trade when we are in the parks. I've never used mousepins online but hear they are good. I've used snowdog on eBay three times and have been more than pleased each time. Pins are $1.85 each including shipping. I generally buy 10 to 20 to have a few traders. We are going to F&W next month and I'll be buying some today for that trip.

FWIW - I'm in no way affiliated with this trader on eBay. Just a happy customer. Good luck.

I've purchased hundreds from various ebay sellers, and only received two obvious fakes. I think that there is a lot of fearmongering about it all. Mousepins will not guarantee their pins, and at least in the past sold propins, which are nasty.

Mousepins still sells Pro Pins, they are fine to trade with CM's but other traders will not usually accept them. They are not "nasty" but they are not as nice as "official Disney pins" either. Of course neither are scrappers....... :)
Please check Snowdog's status on the Collector's Board to see if they are a green seller before buying from them. As I said previously we try hard to keep that thread updated with our own personal experiences.

bolding is mine...
while I agree that they are using their own personal experiences, it is the experiences of a small group of the Disser's on the boards.
I would use ebay's feedback system over the list on the collector's board. There is a seller that the collector's board has 'deemed as a bad seller', and I have had nothing but WONDERFUL EXPERIENCES with this seller and I've bought from them several times now. I think you get a much better and broader overview of a seller if you look at all of their feedback. IMO, using the collector's board is just like picking 5 feedback responses out of a hundred or more. I mean you could certainly take it in to consideration, but I wouldn't use it as my sole basis for a decision. Remember, on the collector's board, you are only hearing one side of things. JMHO.
Happy pin trading! It's addicting :goodvibes

I respect that you have your own opinion but I disagree, yes it's a small group of us on the Dis BUT feedback is not a good way to tell IME. Too many people don't know about scrappers and leave 100% FB, I know because I did it before I learned about scrappers. I'd much rather use MY experiences and those of people I trust over eBay feedback. Which is why I will continue to post on these threads to "please check the Collector's Board for the Good/Bay eBay seller thread" as I always do. :) BTW, I really would like it if you'd post your experiences with your seller, if we are wrong we would like the opportunity to change our notes. It's an on going thread, we make changes to it when people report in, your feedback would be valued, but you have yet to post anything on the threads on the Collector's Board.
