I sold some concert tickets on ebay. A bidder bought them at my buy it now price. I sent them to him via fed ex. Of course fed ex lost them. I contacted fedex's customer no service dept. they just said they are lost and to file a claim, which is a huge hassle by the way. I filed the claim but the concert is on may 15th. I don't think anything will happen from fedex before that date. Do I refund the guys money, he didn't purchase the optional insurance? This is the first item I have sold on ebay and it is proving to be a major hassle. I am pretty sure ticketmaster wont reprint the tickets. That is my next avenue. Please share your thoughts and ideas.

 What a bad way to start your Ebay experience! Well, do you think you will get refunded by Fed Ex? Do they have a basic insurance when you use them like UPS? If so, I would say to refund the guys money and you deal with FedEx. This is especially important if you plan on continuing with Ebay so the guy may not leave negative feedback. Communication is key with your customer.

Keep on top of FedEx- cause a stink and perhaps they will speed it along for you.

Good luck!

Tough way to start out but try and work through it. First, I would try and get what I could from FedEx, regarding the basic insurance since they admit they lost your package. You should get some type of reimbursement from them. Secondly, I would contact ticketmaster and explain the situation that occurred, and see if they can somehow have record that you purchased the tickets, and if they can somehow reprint them (maybe for a small fee). Thirdly, since you just started out on ebay, you may want to refund the buyer their money, so that at least if the tickets are never found they will still leave positive feedback (it's a good way to start off). In the future, you may want to clearly state that 'insurance is recommended' and that if the buyer doesn't purchase insurance you 'are not responsible once item is in the mail'. Regardless, sometimes the buyer doesn't purchase insurance, the item is lost in the mail (obviously not your fault), but then the seller is faced with getting a negative if the buyer is not refunded (it's a tradeoff sometimes depending on the item's value vs. whether or not the seller is willing to accept negative feedback). Stick with ebay, it just takes time, and these things do happen, you learn from experience, and then you move on.....Hope that helps.
