Ebay-Elmo

On Sunday my target got a shippment of TMX Elmos. Since I worked Saturday night and Sunday morning when we opened, I knew we were getting them in. I was able to buy one. Now I bought it to put on ebay. My question is when. I was thinking about after thanksgiving, but my mom suggested now. I was looking at completed sales for the elmos and a lot of them are going for $60-$70. I am not trying to make alot of money on it but some will be nice. I would be happy with the $70 but more will be great also. When would you put it on ebay?

I would wait a bit longer..at least a little closer to Thanksgiving.

We are not bigtime sellers on ebay anymore, but last year we did sell quite a few Vcam's (a kid's camcorder) between t-giving & christmas. Our son wanted one, and while doing reserch on them, I noticed they were $125-$150 on ebay!

Well, of course I went to our walmart and they had plenty of them, for $79. I bought 4 & sold them on ebay for $125-$150 each. SO I basically got my son's for free doing this. It was pretty cool.

Our walmart has had the elmo thing too, but I haven't looked into those yet.

HTH!

My DH and I got 4 last week so I decided to test the waters with one. . . it's up to $70 and the bidding ends tonight. I think that is the only one I will sell for now. . . I am going to wait til closer to Christmas. We stood in the cold a few hours to get them so I do not feel bad about making some money on them. . .

Four, wow, we had a limit of one per a person. they got 30 in and were all gone with in the hour.

I'd wait til after Thanksgiving. I think I heard stores are only getting one or two more shipments before Christmas? So once Black Friday hits and people start getting into Christmas shopping mode and realize stores aren't getting any (many) more, they're going to start getting desperate and heading to eBay, driving the market up.

Toys R Us was allowing 2 per person, they had 50-60 and they were gone in less than 10 minutes.

I tell ya, if I had a fabulous new toy coming out (heck even a not so fabulous one) I'd hire the marketing folks behind the Elmo craze in a heartbeat!

I wonder what kind of Christmas bonus they'll be getting this year?

All this Elmo madness is just CRAZY

LOL that is pretty much what Fisher Price did with Elmo TMX...

they "rehired" the guy who created the initial Elmo craze to engineer this one.

Here is my e-bay story. I was able to get a hold of 5 Elmo's the day they came out. (I called all around and finally found a store that had some out). So, I bought 5 of them and listed 3 of them ASAP as a 1 day sale (as that is what everyone else was doing and some of them were going for outrageous amounts of money). So, then my bright idea was to put 2 in one auction as those people were getting lots of money. So, now I still have 3 auctions going with 1, 1 and 2 Elmos in them. Did not go as well as planned. The single auctions I think I sold them for $52 and $59 ( I paid $42 for them) plus I only charged $8 shipping. So, no big riches there. Well, I changed the last auction to 2 Elmos but the picture still showed one so I only had 1 bidder and I ended up selling both of them for $79.99 plus the $8 shipping (because I forgot to change that). So, I actually lost money on that one.

Can you beleive it. I am such a dough head. If I would have actually spent a little time researching first I may have actually made some money. I could have put up all 5 at once (those auctions seem to be doing well)

Anyway. I have 1 Elmo left and am waiting til after Thanksgiving to post it. I also found the Barbie Elmo to put with it. (Not sure if this will help). Hopefull, I can at least make a little money since my original plan did not go so well....

So let me ask you something. You work at Target. You knew these toys had come in so the next day you buy some to put on Ebay. Does anyone else see the unfairness in this? I wonder how many employees at all these stores get a "heads up" that these have come in, buy them to turn around and sell on Ebay. I'm sorry, but I think that should be against store policy. It's not really very fair to the general public who want them too.

OK, vent over.

And yes, I would wait until after Thanksgiving when the toy rush is on.

I know you are all in it for the money,

but sadly some children will not be recieving their Christmas "wish" for a new Elmo because some people bought, 1 or 2 or 4 of them with no intentions of giving them as gifts, but to profit off them.
Santa cannot always shop of eBay.

Did it ever occur to anyone that Toys For Tots would LOVE to receive the new Elmo to grant a child's Christmas wish.

I agree!
Maybe OP could put a "buy it now" reasonable price and give some poor person a break.

I was really hoping someone would address this. We bought 2 Elmos, one for our DS who turns 4 next month and the other one we are donating to a family in need as an anonymous Secret Santa. I am hoping that if you have one to spare and are not in it for the money there are a lot of families, charities and organizations that would benefit so much from that gift.

We were able to get a bunch of Elmo's. We sold 2 the first day they came out. One for $125, the other sold for I think $100. Then over the weeks we've put a couple up, selling one at a time. We got $96 for one, but the lowest I think we got was about $80. So it ranged between $80-$125. Then I just put one up this week as a one day auction and it sold for $76, without shipping. I'm gonna hold off selling anymore until after Thanksgiving. Unless for some reason they start selling for alot before then. I would wait to put them up. Just keep watching how they are selling.

I don’t see a problem with it at all. The public has the same opportunity to but the Elmo as the employee did. If you showed up when the store opened, you could have gotten one. The only “advantage” the employee had was knowing about it. Sort of like when us DISers here get an advantage with things like room codes & then we all book those available rooms and no one else can.

If I was not working in the morning on sunday and I wanted one to buy I would have to get up and be at the store when it open at 8 to get one. It just so happen I had to be there at 8 in the morning to work. It was not like I got to buy it before the store open or anything. I had to wait until 8 just like everyone else. Except I did not have to wait in the cold. There were people that knew about it on saturday and was calling to see how many we were getting in.

I see nothing wrong with it. I work in retail knowing when the hottest toy in coming in is one of the "perks" I did this when PS2 came out I was working at Toysrus. I also know about PS3 and Wii. I will not buy those cause I dont have that kind of money to spend but if I did why not.

I'm not condoning or defending any parties here as I understand where you are coming from. I just wanted to say that Target's Toy Book came out in Sunday's paper and Elmo was in there. Therefore many people knew that Target should have it that day. On gottadeal.com people posted that most Targets had a line waiting for them to open and the mad dash to the toy section. Someone even posted that as they were running to the toy section they did see some employees running from there with Elmos in hand. They had to wait until opening as well.

I bought one just because our WalMart had tons of them just sitting there.

We decided not to give it to our DD as she would probably be more happy with the box.

I sold it to one of the moms on the DIS for what I paid for it. Someone at the UPS store offered me $100 for it when I went to ship it and I said no way.

I wouldn't give one to Toys for Tots because it probably wouldn't make it to the children. Isn't that sad????

:rotfl2:

I don't know why I found this so funny.
Admittedly I have some serious sleep deprivation going today - but still...

Cathy, I love that you offered your opinion on whether the OP should wait or not, even though you find the whole thing a bit unfair.
I love it, really :thumbsup2
