Hello all,
I was just given a bunch of my cousins stuff after the family (her sisters) cleaning out her apartment (she left the state and refuses to come back so they terminated her lease and she took what she wanted when she left and just walked away...anyway) my cousins are home bodies and really dont do fashion at all:confused3, they are in their 50's and up so that's not their thing as they say,LOL. So I was given almost everything alot of which is Coach. Now I have a few Coach items but I have bought them at Macy's or at the Coach Factory store in Dover,DE. But now I was given all these keychains and bracelets, I mean more then I can use. I picked a few that I liked and set the others aside until I get some responses from my friends on the disboards (what would I do without you guys:love:), so I have no clue about the authenticity or price, they were all in a very nice jewlery box, no one looked for reciepts, they are probably all in thr trash by now, so what would happen if I listed them on ebay and even put that I have no clue about the cost, ect?
Thanks guys:grouphug:

Personally, I would search on ebay for similar items and compare them. I'd also read the section on ebay where you can learn how to spot a fake coach item. Then, you can list your stuff armed with that info!

I used to sell COACH on ebay, most of which I purchased at outlet stores. It is usually pretty obvious which are fake and which aren't. I believe that there are even some websites that help you to determine if the item is real or not. Key chains and cell phone lanyards usually run from 9.99-24.99 at most COACH outlets. If you don't want to have to deal with Ebay you could try taking them to your local consignment/retail shop. If you need any help authenticating items or need help with pricing feel free to pm me. Good luck :wizard:

Go to forum.purseblog.com, register, and post in the authenticate this section of the COACH subforum with pictures of each item. Someone will post back saying they're either authentic or not.

As far as selling, you could try to put a reserve on each item, but truthfully, I've heard that stuff on ebay isn't selling too well right now. I'd put a low minimum price and let the bidders go at it. If you didn't purchase the items anyway, I'd be less concerned with making money (though it's nice) and more concerned with getting rid of the things you didn't want.

If you have a local Coach store, you can bring it in and they will tell you if it's real or fake.

Coach stores generally won't authenticate.

I would second checking the purse blog. I am a member of that forum and the regulars really know their stuff.

Some items still really sell well on eBay, so it might be worth your time to list them. However, eBay has been putting limitations on how much Coach (and other high end brands) can be listed with some people's accounts. I haven't had any issues, but a lot of other people have.

Good luck!

ETA: I have sold 6 Coach pieces in the last couple of months. I set fair BINs and all of the items sold within the first 3 or 4 days. You may not get top dollar, but things are still selling.

Congratulations on your free haul.

You MUST know that these items are authentic to list them on ebay. I have found that the members of ebay's Shoes, Purses and Fashion Accessories Discussion Boards are quite helpful.

I used to run auctions on ebay but now I only use their fixed price/best offer format. That way I know I will be happy with the final selling price. It costs only $.35 to list, though ebay does take a bigger chunk at the end.

I listed a Coach wallet on Ebay and I just put in the description that "I don't think it is a real Coach brand, but I am unsure", it didn't take long before the bid got up to $31.00 (starting at $1.00) and then I got an email from someone yelling at me saying "this is a fake and you can go to jail for listing this and blah blah blah and then I got an email from Ebay stating they are pulling the listing and gave me a link to "rules" of listing things of brand name type things on Ebay and how it's a huge no no to list fraud stuff. I said in the description that I was not sure, and it was true. I didn't THINK it was real, but someone gave it to me and I had no way of proving. So I don't know what to tell you- except be careful- read up on if they're real, etc.
Just sharing.

shefor24 is so right:guilty:. I listed the bracelet and 6 keychains I decided to part with. 2 were sold almost ASAP, was paid for with buy now option. I looked back on my ebay page and noticed it now longer said selling 55 items, it said 51. ALL THE OTHER KEYCHAINS WERE REMOVED. A few minutes later someone asked about the bracelet and then that was removed. I have no clue what will happen now. I also got the link telling me about copy rights, blah blah,LOL. I also listed I had no clue about authenticity and where I got the items, so no one can fault me if there was a chance they were fakes. I have seen some of the same keychains listed so I guess they are real but I cant sell them. I check craigs list and they say the same thing so:confused3. For right now I wont worry about it. Thanks Guys.:teacher:

It doesn't matter to Ebay if you state the item might not be real. If it isn't real, even if you say it isn't, you are not allowed to sell it on Ebay. You also can't use "Coach like" etc.....in your listing. A lot of times your competition reports you to Ebay for selling "fake" items. Less competition for them. Ebay is pretty strict about stuff like that. I listed Tiffany gift boxes/bags. They were real, I had the receipts for the items that were purchased to go along with the boxes/bags. Didn't matter. Not allowed to sell it (and someone I am sure reported me) because someone might buy the real items and put counterfeits in them to try and boost their authenticity.

Ebay is very strict on making sure that all products are genuine because 1) fakes are ILLEGAL and 2) they lost a 65 million dollar lawsuit regarding their failure to make sure that the products on ebay were genuine.

If you do a basic google search for "Harper's Bazaar fight against fakes" you'll come across an article helps explain why this is a such a hot button issue as fakes are tied to human trafficking, child labor and terrorism.

Ebay doesn't allow an out for the seller by having them state that "they have no clue about the authenticity" You really HAVE to know.

Have you tried posting pictures on the message boards listed above? They can be quite helpful in figuring out for sure whether the items are real and sharing information about how to take good pictures so that buyers will have full confidence in your auctions and hopefully bid high!

Though selling a fake purse, key chain, etc is a Federal crime I haven't heard of individual sellers being prosecuted. I have heard of an individual being prosecuted and fined $10,000 recently for selling an antique coat made of an endangered species so maybe its just a matter of time.

I hope none of this came off snarky, I was going for informative. I sell vintage clothing on ebay as my business and have been watching this issue from the sidelines for years.

Hopefully you'll find out soon that your items are authentic and you'll have more dough for DISNEY!

I recieved an email back from ebay after questioning them, so I understand. I'm just going to give them as gifts for christmas I suppose,:goodvibes. It's less stress and I have 7 people done already:thumbsup2. Thanks Guys:hug:
