Can someone explain media mail? Can you still track it?

I don't know much about it, but its limited in what you can send. I use to be able to send magazines media mail to my DS, but they changed the rules so now I can't. I do know it's very, very slow, but it is much cheaper than priority or air mail.

If you have the USPS Shipping Assistant (see the ebay FAQ at the top of the Budget Board) you can print a label for delivery confirmation. It costs .13 cents in addition to the price of shipping.

CD"s (music and data)
Books
Computer disks
Computer Games on Cd's (ie X Box Games)
Hardback Books
Textbooks



I have sent magazines in the past, but now I think I have to send the BPM (BOund Printed Matter)

Just as a note, media mail is considered lower rank than even 2nd class which means the post office will deliver it when they get the time. Post offices are graded on how fast they deliver first class and priority mail, so media can sit around at a post office for weeks sometimes. I used to work for the USPS and have seen it first hand.

I have been told at the PO that no books or magazines that have advertising of any sort in them can go Media. They told me that they only go into the truck that day if they have room. If not, they wait for a truck with room - could be days.....

Media mail is so slow! I would pay extra to have it there quicker. I got a book via media mail that took 2 weeks and was only 3 states away!

I have never had a problem with Media Mail taking an extra long time to arrive. Maybe I have just been lucky.
