I wouldn't eat anything made with raw egg. I've taken care of patients with samonella, and I would not risk that, not even a 1 in a million chance of that.
I bake with Egg Beaters, which are pasteurized and safe to eat raw, so yes I do eat my own homemade cookie dough, along with cake batter, brownie mix, and homemade ice cream.
no raw eggs, no cookie or cake batter , heck I do not even like take out food for fear of food born illnesses (or left overs for that matter, though I have been known to eat a cold pizza slice and thats bad enough since I am lactose intolerant too )........................been there done that and do not care to re-visit food illness issues any time again
I ate them as a child - when I stayed with my Italian born grandparents. I liked them with a bit of salt. Don't eat them whole now but do enjoy cookie and cake batter! No ill effects ever, or I would likely stop. My SIL never let her kids eat cookie batter...I consider that child abuse!
I don't anymore. I had salmonella poisoning and thought I was dying. I have never been so sick in my life. It was excruciatingly painful just to lift my head up off the pillow.
My kids think I am cruel for not letting them eat raw cookie dough or cake batter but I wouldn't wish that illness on anyone.
