Eating question.....sorry if it sounds crazy!

OK; this is the problem. I have to admit that my dh is a bit picky with his eating. He is a "meat and potatoes.....down-home" type of eater. We are from the south so that is the kind of food that he likes. I am a bit concerned that he may not find something that he likes to eat off of the dining room menu. Oh, I know that Disney will have wonderful food. I am just a bit concerned that it may not be the "type" of meal that he is used to eating. My question is:
If we go to the dining room and he is not happy with his meal, or he doesn't eat enough, or whatever.....is there somewhere else that he can eat on the ship after dinner (like a buffet, etc.)?
Don't get me wrong; we are not greedy eaters and I am not wanting to eat non-stop. I just don't want to miss the dining room experience!!!!! I want him to go and try it, but I also want to make sure there are back-up options available too. I didn't know if we are limited to one place per meal or how it works since this is our first cruise.
Sorry if this is a stupid question. I am just a little worried about this.

I know what you mean about being a "meat and potatoes" type of eater. Sometimes the food sounds more exotic than it really is. But remember, every single day, on the dinner menu, you can order a plain steak, plain chicken, plain fish, with a plain baked potato, plain rice, and veggies, so if you don't see anything that looks good on the main menu, you can always order those items. :)

Along with the Fancy food on the menus there is always a plain steak, chicken and fish dishes. You know you can order whatever "side" dish you want that's on the menu. If the entree you want comes with rice and another has garlic potatoes and you would prefer the potatoes -- just ask and they will substitute items for you.

I know how you feel. I too have a picky, N.C. bred, meat and potato eater also. I also was concerned that the foo foo food would not please him. One night he had ribeye steak another he had great bbq baby back ribs, and the other steak medalions ( I think it was the steak tenderloin). He was very satisfied with his choices. The 1st day on the ship we went to each dinning room and read the menus at the door. We went ahead and planned what we were going to eat each night based on which dinning room had the better sounding meat. It worked out fine. No worries!

You don't say which cruise you're going on. On the Magic, the buffet area is set up for dinner most nights. It's a little more casual, and it might have more basic foods. The Wonder hasn't done this yet, but there are food options besides the main dining area.

Both ships offer room service for free. They have soups, sandwiches, and some basic pasta. I think Dave still has the room service menu on his website www.dcltribute.com

And the fast food places are open most of the time. The hamburger/chicken tender/hot dog place has more limited hours, but the pizza place is open quite late.

Don't worry too much. My in-laws are also meat and potato kind of people, and they were okay when I showed them the dining room options since they know that they can go with plain steak or chicken any night they don't like the fancy stuff.

 That's great news for me too, my DH is also a meat and potatoes guy and isn't very open to trying new things.

I, myself, prefer meat and potatoes but am looking forward to trying new things that I wouldn't elsewhere for fear of paying too much for something that no one would eat.

he'll love room service for the late night cheeseburgers....

I'm a meat and potatos guy too but thanks to Victoria & Alberts and DCL, I'm learning to enjoy "fancy" food - though I'd say DCL is more 3 star middle-of-the-road gourmet than 4 or 5 star.

There was always a beef selection or two on the menu, so I'm sure he won't have a problem unless he's really, really picky.

Be sure to have your husband try the cheeseburger and fries at lunch in Triton's/Lumiere's. It's quiet good!

This is me exactly. I got to try the escargot last summer on the Wonder. Not something I would order if I was picking up the check. New taste experiences without the payment pressure are alot of fun.

Agreed completely! And I take the opportunity to sample a lot of stuff and not worry about "cleaning" my plate; something us Southerners are bred to do.

Remember, they will bring you everything on the menu if you want. So if you don't like what you ordered, have them bring you something else. Or if you can't decide between two items, order both.

We did this often....especially for dessert...yyyyyyyyuuuuuuummmmm

That's why the prices just went sky high for 2006! You guys are eating all their food up and they have to replace it!:teeth:  ::yes:: Can't wait for my turn! :teeth:

you can also order off other restaurant's menus ... DH loves the maple glazed salmon at AP ... so as long as the "standard" AP menu is being served in AP he can order the salmon in Triton's or PC ... the only night where he's "outta luck" (on the 4 night Wonder) is when they do the "master chef's" menu on the 4th night ... but that's when we normally go to Palo any way ;)

Thanks so much for all of the encouragement!!! I feel much better!! I cannot wait to board!
By the way, we are doing the four night cruise on the Wonder.

How long has it been since Rae has been on a cruise - I've heard that shrimp prices hit records highs after every one of her cruises:smooth:
