We have managed to bag 2 rooms at the Travel Lodge sale today.
As we fly in from Aberdeen to Gatwick we will not have access to a car so shuttle bus or taxis will be our options.

I thought that we would go straight to twilight check-in once we cleared arrivals and pick up our cases.

Looking for suggestions and experiences for supper?

We went to Frankie and Bennys - really enjoyed it, and got us into the holiday mood!

I was going to say Frankie and Bennys too:thumbsup2

Last August we actually went in M&S and bought salads and sandwiches as we were too excited to eat a proper meal and ate it back in our hotel room:rotfl2:

Another Frankie and Benny's fan here too!! :goodvibes

Which Travel lodge are you staying at? I am looking at decent places to spend the night before we fly out in June (I am a nervous traveller, so the less stops I have to make in one day the better!)

Thanks Reid!

It shows as Gatwick airport on the travellodge site but I think it is 0.5/1 mile away :) Just search for Gatwick Airport :thumbsup2

It is also bargain prices there at the moment £19 a room when I looked.

But with parking worth considering looking at Courtyard Marriott as that is walking distance to the airport. I have just booked with 15 days parking £109 all in:thumbsup2

Frankie & Bennies for us too :thumbsup2

Love it - really makes us feel like the holiday has started :goodvibes

It is a very good price and as we are flying in the car parking is not an issue :)

Well Frankie and Benny's seems to be the popular choice. I take it this is in the airport?

It is Reid, in the South Terminal so very handy if you've just done Twilight Check In.

Truth be told there are very few options in Gatwick for eating, landside - Pizza Express closed a while ago and apart from Starbucks type places and the Weatherspoons, I can't think of anywhere else?

We usually go to F&B's anyway. In fact will be there in 36 days' time :D

Sorry Reid, but we always go to F&B's now - it's a tradition with us, but you know you'll get a tidy meal. :goodvibes

Lucky you, Karen!! :dance3:

We're another F&B family too, Reid. :) The menu isn't quite as extensive as their other restaurants but there's still plenty of choice.

My friend stayed at the Travel Lodge last time she went to WDW and I remember her saying there is a regular shuttle bus.

Not complaining. Just interested that no one offered any other options nearby :)

I know the troops will be happy with F&B.

Good to know about the regular buses :thumbsup2

there are other options, up the road form the travelodge a 5 min drive a toby carvery or you can take the local bus service or cab into crawley and right near the town centre there is crawley leisure park where there is a bella pasta, pizza hut, mcdonalds and tgi fridays which of all the latter is brilliant there a a couple more but cant remember , i would give tgi a whirl will get you in the usa mood!nice big portions great ribs and burgers

I agree that there are too few options for a proper meal at Gatwick these days. It's basically a choice between a pub type restaurant in the North Terminal (can't remember what it is called), or Frankie and Benny's in the South (otherwise Wetherspoons or more takeaway type of places). I was devastated when Pizza Express closed, that had been our holiday tradition for years.

What about South Terminal breakfast options? Any recommendations?

Both Frankie and Benny's and Wetherspoon's (can't remember the name) pub do cooked breakfast and then you've got all the takeaway places.

We were lucky and managed to get in the V-Room on the day but we had originally planned on eating a full English at Wetherspoon's. I think it's around £6 a head.

There is a Frankie and Bennies for Breakfast in after Security!!! I didn't realise this on one of our trips, they have turned the viewing lounge top right hand corner of departure into a Frankie and Bennies and you do not pay VAT. It is worth going there; also they have TV monitors so you can eat at your leisure knowing when your flight is ready. :cool1::cool1::cool1:

That's handy to know :thanks:
DS loves F&B (well we all like it, but DS particularly and he's a fussy eater! lol) so it's somewhere we could have a bite to eat before we get on the plane and have to suffer airline food!

Luv Suzy

We always do Frankie and Bennys only last time it was shut for refurb and only Pizza Express was open which I see has now gone?? Has Planet Hollywood also gone?? Are there any plans to put another table service restaurant in their place. Most people I know like to have a sit down meal the night before they fly. We always stay in the Gatwick Hilton the night before but to be honest the last time we ate in the restaurant there it was horrendously expensive!
