To all who eat in the rooms.........

We are used to staying in at least a one bedroom at the BW and are doing a quick trip next month before a very large one in Jan.... I always cook breakfast and dinner when we go but since we are going to be in a studio this trip I wondered what some of you do when you stay in a studio. I realize some like to just eat out but we are not that way. We would rather eat something we prepare. I thought that we could do sandwiches and such but what else can you do? Don't get me wrong we do eat out some but just don't care to every meal.

Thanks for your help...

We try living off left-overs. The Chinese restaurant in Epcot (9 Dragons?) serves in very large portions ... providing a good "take away" meal for later.

We always buy a big container of cut-up fresh fruit on our grocery run; great for snacks, side dish with a sandwich, etc. Also, remember you do have a microwave and either have or can request a toaster, so anything you can cook in either of those is a good choice. Toast some bread, add some ham and cheese, zap it in the microwave for a few seconds to heat it up and melt the cheese, add a scoop of fruit on the plate, you've got a quick, elegant and healthy meal!

We had many meals in our studio, although they weren't the healthiest options...Kids really enjoyed the chef boyardee microwaveable pasta, vienna sausages, easy mac, dinty moore has a potroast meal that's microwavable that doesn't have to be refrigerated. We took boxes of cereal and bought milk at the resort, cereal bars, 4 oz. yogurt, always brought back leftovers for later. Hot dogs in the microwave. We did drive and brought a few perishables in a ice chest.

I have brought my little George forman grill. I cooked Ham and cheese melts, you can cook hot dogs and hamburgs, chicken breast. I really loved it. I packed it in my food suitcase with our beach towels around it. we stayed in a studio at BCV this past June.

Get one of those little hot pocket sandwich maker thingys...I know they sell them at Target for around $10. You plug it in and can make grilled cheese sandwiches, mini "pizzas", turnovers, all with a loaf of bread and a variety of fillings...cheese, lunch meat, tomato sauce, pie filling...

Bring bagels for toasting, or pop-tarts.

Ask housekeeping for a blender, and make smoothies.

Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, or any other kind...

Second the leftovers!!!! That's mostly what we do!

You can also get a prepackaged Hormel meat course and add frozen mashed potatoes or baked potoatoes. I have recently tried two of Hormel's main meat courses and they were wonderful. I have tried sirloin tips and also beef brisket with Famous Dave's BBQ sauce. They come in their own container and only take 4 minutes in the microwave and then sit for two minutes. MY DH thought they were wonderful and that I made them myself. You can even do the brisket as BBQ sandwiches.

We sometimes pick up a rotisserie chicken at the grocery store and the makings for salad -- instant "grilled" chicken salad!!

I can highly recommend getting a piece of the chocolate cake at Olivia's to go - it lasted for 2 entire days in the fridge and still tasted absolutely fantastic!::yes::

Our recent favorite studio meal is hot dogs with chili (hormel in a can), cheese (or salsa con queso), and fritos to scoop more chili.

I found that sandwiches were difficult to make because of a lack of counter space...but that was at OKW. The newer DVC's seem to have a bit more counter space in the kitchenette area...one small improvement over OKW.

Our kids also like microwaveable Mac and Cheese...we use the Annie's microwave packets.

First question and no I didn't read all the responses first.
Are you driving or flying?
If you are driving take a coleman 2 burner stove with you and a couple propane cylynders and a small frypan. You will have the fridge and this will allow you to make bacon and eggs etc for breakfast. It will also allow you to make several other meals for dinner like grilled cheese sandwiches or pancakes etc. This is what we do or we take our little camping BBQ and use that in teh same way mond you it woprks for burgers and hotdogs better.

We've never stayed in a studio, but I have stayed in a moderate before we bought dvc. We did cereal and milk with some fruit for breakfast. We ate lunch and dinner at the resort restaurant, but with a fridge, coffee maker, and microwave there's so much flexibility. I love cup a noodle soup, the pre cut chicken strips and some salad, hot pockets, hot dogs with easy mac. I would call it my college diet, of course, I still eat all of this on a regular though :p

If your driving and can take a a cooler I have taken a few dinners my family loves...
1) I make potato salad, baked beans the night before we leave and buy two pounds of Honey Baked Ham they sell it by the pound...(very tasty) after warming the baked beans in Micowave you have a great dinner...(rolls &/butter optional) We then have some of the ham for breakfast, or ham sandwiches.

2) I also have made spaghetti sauce frozen it, to reheat in the micowave...the noodles can also be pre-cooked drained placed in storage bags kept in the cooler warmed in either the micowave or by rinsing under hot water, with toast and salad.

3) Or homemade soup (loads of veggies) or chili frozen then just reheat it in the Mico...with crackers.

4) Chicken salad with fruit is great for lunch around the pool.

Maximum preparation 5 minutes for any of the meals.

Um, does anyone else have a problem with people using pressurized gas cannisters and open flames in a Studio - or any DVC room? I guess I don't really mind a Foreman grill (except for the steamy grease rising to the ceiling), but the idea of open flame and grease from cooking foods just has me thinking that one minor "Oops" and there's goes a room - or 20.

I will often make meatballs before we drive to WDW-freeze them and then micro. Ypu can put them on bread for meatball heroes/heros(sp?-Dan Quayle moment).

I also make fajitas. Tyson makes seasoned chicken strips frozen-cook in micro, add cheese, salsa and sour cream.

I like BBower's idea-chocalate cake!

::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes::

We make breakfast sandwiches/croissants/roll ups with sliced ham, cheese and eggs.

Lots of sandwiches and wraps, salads, pasta anytime, anything in a can, anything frozen that will microwave.

I like the george foreman idea and will probably either buy a small one or figure out how to bring the big one. That would make for so many more options. I have seen those containers of already made mashed potatoes but haven't tried them. Anyone? Also wondered about those Hormel meat dishes. Thanks for the confirmation on this patty3-will try it next time.
