I'm bringing my parents to Epcot for the first time, and I want them to get the most out of each of the countries so we are hoping to sample some different food/drinks from around WS. We're thinking of splitting a few counter-service meals, so that we can all taste some different things. As of now, we are planning to share a shawarma platter from Tangierine Cafe in Morocco and a cheese plate and baguette from Boulangerie Patisserie in France (and possibly a dessert or 2). We're also thinking of maybe also stopping in Norway for an open-faced sandwich/soup combo and possibly in Germany for some bratwurst, but I would really love some suggestions.

As for drinks, we're hoping to sample some wines and/or a Grey Goose slushie from France and maybe a margarita.

Any other suggestions?

You didn't mention when you were planning on going...

If you don't already have set dates, you should take them during the F&W festival (Oct-Nov), then you can sample many different tastes from around the world.

Ooops, should've checked your ticker ;) You should check out the tequila bar in Mexico too. Yum :) I believe you can get the cheddar cheese soup to go from La Cellier also....delish!

I would go for an order of quacamole with those margaritas at the Tequila Bar (do not go to the kiosk outside; go inside for real margaritas on the rocks).

Honestly, my favorite snack is the Scotch Egg at the pub in UK, along with a drink at that bar.

Thank you for the great suggestions so far! :goodvibes

I went during the F&W festival a few years ago and LOVED it! Unfortunately, we can't work those dates out this year, so we're trying it this way as best we can. I didn't know you could get the soup to-go. That's a great tip! :)

That sounds great! We love guacamole! What is a Scotch Egg?

The guacamole at the Tequila Cave is delish!

I must confess, I sometimes dream about the awesomeness that are the soft pretzels from Germany. Gaahhhh.

Have to say, the gelato in Italy is also delicious!

Peach oblong tea slushie in China....YUM! Very nice size glass you get as well. I agree LOVE the grey goose slushie but the peach tea is 3 times bigger for the same price so you get more bang for your buck!

A great way to sample wine is to do the "wine walk," which is 2 sample size glasses of wine each in France, Germany, and Italy for $20. I believe you can also sample 3 or 4 different wines in each country for a standard price as well.

Agree with everyone on the margaritas from La Cava in Mexico...my faves are the blood orange and the pineapple. Along with the guac, the crab tostadas are to die for!

Shawarma in Morocco is a great choice...definitely one of my must do's. The new caramel shop in Germany is great too....freshly made caramel popcorn and an octoberfest are a great combo!

Have fun!

The Scotch egg is a hard boiled egg wrapped in sausage and cooked. It's served cut in half on a bed of greens with a mustard sauce on the side. It's very good.

Also agreeing that the shawarma platter in Morocco is great!

I happen to be partial to the Grand Marnier slushie in France, but DH always gets the Grey Goose. I also recommend a Strongbow cider in the UK.

I have two strong suggestions:
1) the escargot in brioche in France
2) the lamb slider at the New Zealand kiosk with a nice glass of Shiraz--this one is particularly tasty and prompted me to buy a cookbook with the recipe for the slider

Have fun!

Thank you all so much for the great suggestions! I think this "mock F&W festival" thing is starting to come together! :goodvibes

Is the peach oblong tea slushie nonalcoholic? It sounds so refreshing! :)

I had never heard of the wine walk. What a great idea! The blood orange margarita sounds delicious...and so do the crab tostadas. Where in Mexico is La Cava?

DS absolutely loved the escargot when we were there for the F&W festival. I didn't know they had it during the rest of the year. Which place in France?

La Cava, aka The Ditch, Is inside Mexico Pavillion. Down stairs to the right.
It gets busy but muck better drinks & food than outside

1) the escargot in brioche in France
2) the lamb slider at the New Zealand kiosk with a nice glass of Shiraz--
These are only at F&W.

I am interested in the wine walk-where do you go and how do you do this?
Are you sure you can get cheese soup to go, I did not know that but hope that is so!

We always share a fish and chips in England

hummus and pita chips from Tangerine

pretzel in Germany

a pastry in France

Mexico is a must!

On my last trip with my friends, we mentioned our plans to sample drinks from around the world, and our waiter RAVED about the Habibbi Daquiri from Morocco. We sought it out, and we were sooooooooooo glad we did! It was divine, and one of the best drinks in the whole showcase!

Nachos and a Margarita at Mexico. :cloud9:

I didn't know about the cheese soupe at Le Cellier. Will have to pay a visit. :goodvibes

You used to be able to get the cheese soup to go, but I haven't been since 2009 so I suppose they could have done away with it.

Thanks for all the great suggestions. This is what I have so far...

Canada – We are hoping to get an ADR at Le Cellier for dinner.

United Kingdom – Scotch Egg, potato-leek soup (DS's fave), Strongbow cider

France – Grey Goose/Grand Marnier Slushies, baguette & cheese plate, strawberry tart, napoleon, wine

How do I sign up for the wine walk?

Morocco – Shawarma platter from Tangierine Café

Japan – sushi, plum wine (maybe)

America - not interested

Italy – gelato, wine

Germany – caramel shop, bratwurst, soft pretzel, wine/beer

China – Peach Oblong Tea Slushies

Norway – open-faced sandwich/soup combo, Viking coffee, school bread

Mexico – blood orange margaritas, guacamole, crab tostadas

Are the tortilla chips the thicker ones they seem to have in Florida or the thinner, crispy ones like Tostidos? BTW, does anyone know how long La Cava has been open? I never realized it was there.

Thanks again for all of these great suggestions! :goodvibes
