Eating Clean on DCL

We eat a clean diet at home.

For the most part, you are not going to find Organic on a cruise ship. You can ask the waiters, but it is not likely.

I would focus on eating a lot of raw foods (fruits/veggies, nuts) and minimally processed foods (grilled meats/fish, baked potatoes). You can ask the waiters to keep these things free or sauces and other added ingredients, and they will do that for you.

FYI- Organic is not pesticide free....just free from certain man-made pesticides.

when I eat clean it means changing the water in the hot dog steamer and rinsin' out the beer mug....;)

Nice!

Seriously though, these folks that eat clean are probably uber Eco friendly too. Are you folks aware of the pollution that cruise ships generate? Cruising might not be your cup of tea.

True, but Friends of the Earth actually awarded an A to Disney just this year, in October! So if you are going to cruise, Disney really is the best ECO line. :thumbsup2

Part of getting sick from a dietary change is believing you will get sick.

My brother in law was a clean eating vegan due to his ex-wife. When they divorced, he did a 180 degree switch to his pre-marriage diet. It never occurred to him that he could get sick (he was a clean eating vegan for six years), and he didn't.

I have a girlfriend who went from vegan to eating meat - she eased into it, and still doesn't eat junk, but she found the whole "you don't have enzymes to digest that anymore and will get sick" to not be true for her - she'd been vegan for thirty years. (She went gluten free and found that vegan and gluten free was too limiting, so she started adding things back in - she still doesn't eat gluten, but she will eat bacon - nitrate free humanely raised bacon, but bacon).

Don't psyche yourself out. You are more likely to find yourself not feeling well because you believe you won't feel well than you will from eating sensibly on the ship. Obviously, it may not be a good idea to break out the Cheesy Poofs...but you aren't likely to anyway.

(The fish won't be wild caught - its farmed and frozen).

"Clean" eating doesn't necessarily mean Eco friendly. Cows raised for eating produce huge amounts of methane gas. I'm not here to preach though.

My husband and I are vegans for health reasons and eat whatever looks good on vacation. We don't revert to eating steak with butter sauce for every meal but we do eat fish, dairy, and DH might have one steak, during the course of a week. It's vacation after all, but to each his/her own.

They're very accommodating on deck if you want to eat vegan during your cruise.
Just for your information!
I understand there are all kinds of reasons for veganism.

Probiotics, yes!! We always try to take some of the Kevita brand when we go to FL. Last time we were there, I discovered that the Whole Foods does delivery to WDW, yay! Ill be bringing a few bottles on board in Feb along with my Defense supplements.
Black Cod, Escargot, and scallops are on my short list for sustainability and low mercury

I had no problems on the Fantasy as a vegan a few weeks ago. MDR, Palo, even topside for cheeseless pizza and veggie burgers.

The Wonder was a bit more difficult, but that was more because our MDR server didn't understand the difference between that and vegetarian.

Thanks! I agree that it's very possible but we just choose to eat less healthy foods on vacation. I understand that there are other motivations for veganism and on DCL it's not necessary to change during your cruise at all.

I tend to eat clean as well, but my definition is a bit different than yours. DCL suits my needs because there is a lot of relatively fresh fruit and veg, plus a variety of lean (albeit previously frozen) protein available every day along side the processed foods. Stick to those, and you'll be fine. The minimal difference between an "organic" banana and a DCL banana almost certainly is not sufficient to make you physically ill.

As others have mentioned, your servers will try to accommodate you but may be confused. On my last cruise, they were quite baffled that I had no interest in eating a platter of desserts every single day and kept bringing out "extra" items that we did not order and did not eat.

. On my last cruise said:
I hate when they do that. Went to lunch one day at the MDR to get a grilled chicken salad. The server brought out the wrong entree and when I sent it back she wouldn't take it back and said that it was so good we would like it. When we didn't eat it (because I didn't order it! And just wanted a salad) she was offended. Not everyone goes on a cruise just to eat too much.
