Hi! Years ago we ate at a place in the Contemporary. It was great, it was a buffet with many different foods. We went for dinner and I remember they had the best Swiss steak. Is it still there, still good? Thanks

Chef Mickey's Restaurant in the Contemporary has a wonderful buffet. The sample menus on Debs site doesn't list Swiss steak, but it still might be there.

Sounds like you are talking about Chef Mickey's. It's the only buffet at the CR :wave2:

CRB 1991
CR 2000
Disneyland Hotel 2003
AKL 3 nights , Wonder 4 night, CR 4 nights, RPR 4 nights June 2006 :hourglass

There was a buffet there in Chef Mickey's location before it was Chef Mickey's even though there were a couple of characters their (Pluto, Goofy and Chip and Dale stand out) this was back in the mid 80's (at least I don't think it was called Chef Mickey's back then). I remember they had a taco bar as part of the buffet (wish they'd bring that part back).

Suggest checking out the menu on allearsnet.com.
And WELCOME to the DIS!!!! :cool1:

I guess remembering this far back makes me a WDW relic or something...it was called the Character Cafe...it is in the location that Chef Mickeys now occupies (this was WAY back, when Chef Mickeys was over at DTD where the Rainforrest Cafe now stands, at least I think that's where it was)...the character cafe was a buffet and all the servers wore old collegiate letter sweaters. There were 2 tiered dining areas and 1 had an incredible view over the lake.

I even remember one of the servers named George...my DD's were just tiny tots back then and they LOVED him....because they were afraid of the characters, but he would take their autograph books and get the characters to sign them from afar...and he even signed their autograph books and he could write backwards...it is funny what I remember about those first trips...but it was a CM that went above and beyond that made the trip special...my DD (now getting ready for college) still has that autograph book and her faorite thing in it is George's backwards writing!!

BTW, I remember the swiss steak...it was smothered in some great sauce!!

Sadly the Cafe, George and the Swiss steak are no more at the CR!!

I have a set of character cards and the folder from Character Cafe - how long ago was this?

Another relic here. I remember this place, and I also remember eating at the old Chef Mickey's (about 15 years ago). It lacked all the hoopla of the current CM and you ordered off a menu (yummy rib platter). Mickey was the only character that came to visit us.

The Buffeteria didn't have characters. I think it was located where the Concourse is now. We had breakfast there every morning in 1985.

I remember that restaurant!! We ate there for supper every night back in 1975. It was really good and reasonably priced, so I was told. Yes, same location as Chef Mickeys.
