We will be booking our first trip to AKV. What are the eating/restaraunt options at this resort? Opinions?

Jiko is a great table service, while Boma is a good buffet. The Mara is a CS, and is OK.

We love Jiko!

In addition did you see that a new perk is 10% off at Boma and Mara (I don't remember about Jiko)?

we love all 3 options. Jiko is to die for. Boma is awesome for a buffet, soups are delish. Mara was not bad at all. The basics are the same as the basics anywhere else but had some other options too. Loved the African stew and the hot ham & cheese sandwhich. The usual muffins and fruit for breakfast were fine and we could send the children down to pick those up and then eat in the Villa.

We cant wait to stay at AKV again and will use all 3 dining options.

Boma is a family favorite and we go EVERY trip, no matter where we stay. My parents live in Florida now, an hour away from Mickey, and we often drive down JUST to go to Boma when we are not even staying onsite! Try it.

We love Boma and love love Jiko. WE have not tried Mara as we have never stayed at AKV. As you can tell by my user name, we will be staying there quite often now! Our experiences dining at AKL and the great look of the AKV villas at the preview center made our choice easy. AKV is going to be a very unique and special DVC resort.

We loved Boma, the food is very different but great! DH and the kids went to Jiko, but I was soo sick that day and I missed out. DH said it was also very good. We ate at Mara - but it is a lot of typical CS food. We loved AKL, the animals and the pool were amazing. Enjoy your trip.

We will be staying at AKV in May of 2008. I have read that Boma is fantastic, can't wait to try it out!

breakfast is great as well

boma has become the one place we try to eat every time now. I have heard complaints from picky type eaters who are more into traditional foods. Although, IMO, there is definately enough to get by for a meal or two. It might not be something picky eaters will enjoy frequenting often

Regarding Boma - make sure you do an ADR ahead of time. Don't assume that just because you are staying at AKV, you can do a walk-up. It has become very popular, they even have a check in desk up on the main floor of the resort now. We ate at Boma a couple of weeks ago and it was fantastic. I especially liked the soups and bread pudding for dessert.

We love Jiko! We go every trip whether we are staying at AKV or not. have never eaten at Boma... we just love Jiko too much.

LOVE Boma! We also always try to go from where we're staying. It amazes me that it's such a big buffet but that everything is so-o good - and yes! The soups are incredible! As far as CS places go The Mara is good too for quickie breakfasts / lunch. (Recommend the refillable mug!) We have not tried Jiko yet. We're staying there again in July so maybe we'll get a chance to slip in a dinner there! I've heard it's wonderful too!:goodvibes

We loved the Mara. THe Butternut Squash soup was to die for! The African Stew looked interesting, but I never tried it because I LOVED the soup so much. Boma was great. Nice selection of food and the atmosphere was fabulous. We did not try Jinko, becasue of my children 18 months and 5.
