Eat This, Not That - Disney Version

Excuse me, I don't like potatoes anyway they are cooked. I'm not allergic to them. I just don't like them. You're telling me that if I want the steak and lobster at Narcoosee, then I should just go ahead on let them put the potatoes on my plate, even though I wouldn't touch them and would just prefer more broccoli? Or if I was at a CS, I should let them put fries on my plate (that I wouldn't touch), when I could have fruit that I do like? Same thing with English peas. I hate those little buggars. No way, am I touching them. If I saw a dish on the menu that looked really good, except it had English peas on it, then I should just go ahead and order it as is and leave the English peas untouched on my plate, instead of ordering a vegetable that I do like?

The CHEF always knows better if he/she wants English Peas in a dish you better order it that way AND eat them or you will just ruin the entire dish and then the entire meal will be pointless! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

One not six. I got one pretzel doctored up the way I wanted at Goofy's. Didin't have another while there, but over the course of a couple of days loved that one. I'm a bit weird, I can nurse a pack of M&Ms for a week.

Ah Rusty...You've done it again... :stir:

I like this suggestion from Septbaby...I've done this too. There are lots of ways to expound on this idea.

It can be hard to 'save food' at WDW, but if you are going back to your room after dinner, or dining at your home resort then you can certainly save your dessert for later. Some even make good breakfast treats! One of my personal tricks is to get a muffin or cookie on the way out of a park or as I come through the main lobby of my resort late at night. If I've got a fridge then I can eat half and stow the rest.

-drink h2o instead of pop or frozen drinks.
-order your cs meals with fruits or veggies over fries or onion rings
-skip chips and things for fruits and veggies

however, when in WDW, don't skip your favorite!! we consider ourselves a pretty healthy family and we try to make the best meal choices when eating outside of our own kitchen. however, when you have a vacation favorite - don't skip it, just don't over-do it! feed your body what it needs and go ahead and splurge a bit on vacation!

I don't watch what I eat at Disney (and I am no skinny minnie by any means), but our last trip I ate everything at LOST 6 pounds. I think it's because we walked so much it was crazy.

Why go to WDW and not eat great food?

Ditto. My DH is deathly allergic to mushrooms. We have to substitute those out, obviously. If the chef (or investor) sneers at our choice, or we miss the whole experience, that's his/her own problem. And if I ever caught wind of it, trust me that restaurant would never see another dime of my money again. VERY offensive!

:snooty: Neither Chefs nor line cooks are getting paid to sneer at the food choice I have to make because of my diabetes. The poster that made that comment really needs to get his/her head out of their you know where.
Furthermore if the chefs or cooks do not like it they should work somewhere else other then Disney World. And I agree with the quoted poster above if I ever got wind of this or was treated differently heads would roll! After all this is a VACATION not a hostile takeover.... Disney prides itself on catering to it's guests within reasonable limits. :snooty:

Sorry, I might manage a bite of potato (wouldn't like it, but could at least swallow it). English peas, NO WAY!!:rotfl: My mother is the same way with okra or avocados. She won't touch them. I don't think either of us are particularly picky eaters, but there are some things I just don't like and I have no problem asking for one of those two things to be subsituted for.

Doubt that will happen anytime soon...

1) If you do not want to wreck a diet, just eat less.
2) Substituting on a menu isn't the way.
3) Especially if you want the dining experience and the enjoyment.
4) Chefs go through great lengths to CREATE dishes.
. . . they usually start with the protein
. . . they add complimentary sides for texture and taste
. . . they add contrasting side for texture and taste
5) Now, people come by and substitute.

NOTE: I have been in the kitchen at a WDW signature restaurant many times when the waiter comes in with the order and mentions the substitutions. Frequently the chef or even the line cook sneers at the choices. The dining guest never gets to appreciate the total experience! What a shame. (By the way, we are majority investors in two restaurants. In the fine dining house, we allow only limited substitutions, so the items still compliment the meal. No complaints yet!)

1) Though eating less might work sometimes, this may not be the best option for some people for a variety of reasons.
2) Why shouldn't you substitue if you want to or need to? :confused3
3) I will enjoy my dinner much more if I don't go into anaphylactic shock from eating mustard, thanks  . No matter how good a meal is, that sort of ruins it
4) I appreciate the effort chefs put in, but aren't they creating dishes for people to enjoy?
. . . If something makes me ill, I don't enjoy it
. . . If I don't like the taste of something, I don't enjoy it
. . . If I know I would enjoy something with a minor change but not without it, why shouldn't the change be made?
5) What, it's too difficult to put veggies on my plate instead of fries? :sad2:

NOTE: I have eaten in a lot of very nice restaraunts and have often asked for a substitution or omission. At the V&A Chef's Table, my only requests were no mustard (allergy) and no salmon (migrane trigger). Chef Hunnel was happy to accomodate. If the chef's had sneered at us, we would have gotten up and walked away. They may not know why I want or don't want something, but it isn't their job to question my dietary decisions. (As stated above, my experience is automatically bad if it includes a visit to the ER because the chef thinks I have to try their mustard sauce in order to have the full experience!)

I like the chocolate covered frozen banana. I never thought I would but it really wasn't bad I even made them at home b/c I liked them so much. The banana and the nuts are good for you just the chocolate isn't so it is better for then a mickey bar right?
