My girls are almost 5 and enjoy cooking. I'm looking for some kid-friendly recipes that my girls can make.

We currently make things like crescent dogs and pizzas. What do your kids like to make? :cool1:

Good idea! Here are a couple of things we like to make...

Hot Dog Octopus
Cut the hot dog in half lengthwise, leaving the top part together
Rotate the hot dog and cut it again, still leaving the top part whole
You'll have a hot dog that's normal on one end and cut into 4 long quarters on the other end.
Boil the hot dog and the 4 quarters will curl up to form "legs" and it will look like an octopus.

Cheese toast shapes
Place a piece of cheese on a slice of bread and toast.
Cut another slice of bread with a cookie cutter shape.
Top the cheese toast with the crusted part of the bread.
You'll have a hole in the middle of the sandwich that shows the cheese in the shape that you cut out.
You can serve the cut out piece with some cinnamon or top it with another piece of cheese.

My kids love to make cookies, especially cut out shapes.
we also do grilled cheese and cut out shapes........
pizza is always a hit too.

Pudding cups/dirt (add oreo crumbs on top with gummy worms)
Cookies are great
Mac and cheese with fun noodles
rice crispy bars in "cake form" or fun shapes ( we use the microwave so there is no stove time)
Almost anything that can be done in the microwave teaches independance so it's GREAT! Most importantly though--teach the kids to explore and relax. Cooing is something we need to know how to do because we eat every day! HAVE FUN!!!

I just posted this on the Super Bowl munchies post but as a kid I learned to make Pasta Roll up's. Basically its sorta like lasagna but instead of making a huge pan that you have to slice out each person gets their own roll.
Mom/Dad makes sure the noodles cook and then cool so kids and touch.
Let the kids spread ricotta over their lasagna noodle. Roll them up and make as many as they can.
In a large pan brown the meat (I love ground italian turkey) and then pour in the sauce to heat up a bit.
Pour the sauce meat mixture over the noodles and bake for about 30 minutes.
For the last 5 to 8 minutes put another cheese of choice on top to melt and then each kid gets their own patsa roll up.
* Its really messy since most kids skip the spoon and use their fingers to spread out the ricotta but its an awesome meal for everyone to feel like they really helped out and no one gets MORE or LESS then someone else!

My now 5 year old son has been making scrambled eggs for about a year now. He does it all- the egg cracking the butter melting the stirring. The "flippity flip" as he calls it. seasoning with salt and pepper. (That always cracks people up that he loves his pepper)

We are going to make lemon bars tomorrow- he love juicing the lemon- and working with confectioners sugar(snow sugar)

I try to look for recipes with some "fun" tasks included like the juicing of something or a mashing- like banana bread.

He loves making pizza dough- watching it rise- making a pizza then. All fun and takes patience as you have to wait for the dough to rise.

our children at school love to make pancakes! Pudding and grilled cheese toast are big too. Other fun things are french toast, brownies or cup cakes from a mix (fun to ice the cup cakes too).

Check family fun. com for a lot of kid friendly ideas as well

Borders has some great kids cookbooks, with "follow along" illustrations.
I suggest you browse there.
If you celebrate Easter, one of those might be great for the Easter baskets.

We have The Mix-It-Up Cookbook from the American Girl Library.

It's a great one! (although my DD was older than your girls when we got it).

Last night the girls (with a little help from dad) made dinner and dessert.

We had crescent dogs (they were put on pan in the shape of a heart), mac and cheese, corn, and Krispy treats shaped like hearts. The girls were so pleased with themselves and were thrilled to present me with a Valentine's dinner that they mostly made. :lovestruc

Here's one my kids like to do:

"Paint" bread with colored milk - just use food coloring in your milk and a new thin paintbrush.

Toast the bread when you're done and each child gets to eat his or her masterpiece.

The kids did this for daddy's birthday and it was cute - smiley faces are the easiest.

Just an idea!
