easy for summer 08 reserv. inside 7 mths?

Hi. I am thinking of buying a resale DVC contract. Closing would not be until January or Feb. I am planning on visiting 6/22-6/26/08 and wanted to book a studio. I am wondering, based upon others past experiences, how "hard" is it to get a reservation for a studio end of June at 4-5 months out? My preference would be OKW, then BWV, but I would consider all others.
Although I am guessing it should still be OK by Jan/Feb, if wise DVCers say it is "iffy", then I might just rent points for this trip to make sure I get what I want and postpone buying until the next year.

I believe you will have a very good chance of getting a studio at OKW during the dates you laid out. And if you are considering "all others" then I think you won't have a problem at all. Most of the summer weeks have some availability since so many people try to avoid vacationing during the summer months.

If I were purchasing DVC, I wouldn't want to pay cash for any more reservations if I could help it. I think I'd take the chance in this case, and I'm not a huge risk-taker with vacation planning.

We had no problem getting a studio at the BCV for June 27-30, 2007 at the 7 month window we had also been able to book at VB for June 24-27 at the 7 month window. We bought our DVC in late 2004 and closed Feb. of 2005 and had no problems getting a reservation for late June of 05 that year either. With the 05 reservation we had a choice of a number of resorts and room sizes that we could have booked, we chose SSR for that trip because it is our home resort and we thought we should try it out first. I think if you can be a little flexible regarding which resort you stay at you shouldn't have a problem!

I agree with Granny, if planning to buy DVC I wouldn't want to pay cash again if I could help it!

Likely to be able to get OKW, SSR, or BWV preferred pool/garden view; You may also be able to get AKV savannah view. Other categories at BWV and AKV, and getting VWL or BCV, are probably going to be more difficult.

OK, so am I pretty safe with waiting for 6/22-26/08? I definitely ONLY want a studio, but would even be willing to change resorts once in 4 days, if I had to. So are Dvcers saying roll the dice and just wait--this would work perfectly with the points I would be getting for usage in 2008. Thanks, Elaine (soon to be new DVCer).

Personally, yes I would roll the dice. You could back up your "gamble" by making a cash reservation but I don't think it is necessary. The key for you is that you are very flexible, even to the point of willingness to move once. My guess is that won't be necessary either but it definitely improves your odds even more.
