I know Easter week is a peak week, but what is Easter week. The week leading up to Easter or the week AFTER Easter Sunday?

And how bad are the crowds in comparison to Christmas week?
equal, more or less?

Great question! We'll be there from Thursday to Tuesday this week. I've only been in Jan & May so I'm a little inimidated at the idea of the crowds. I'm expecting it to be packed in like sardines..

I would interpret Easter week to be the week leading up to Easter. A lot of schools give Good Friday off as a holiday. And others will give Easter Monday off as well. But I would expect the most crowds would be the week before Easter.

We're there the 2 weeks after Easter and the crowd levels that first week after are predicted as 8's - still pretty busy. The second week after they drop to a 4.

Now see, I interpret Easter week to be the week of Easter. EasyWDW is showing higher crowds for the week before Easter than for the week of Easter, but both are pretty high.

I think it depends on if you go to public or parochial school and when Easter falls in the month.

In public school Easter breaks depends on Passover...This year Easter break is the week before Easter because Passover is also that week. Some years it's the week after Easter if that week better coincides with Passover.

If you go to a parochial school I think Easter vacation is usually Good Friday plus the week after Easter. So basically I think both the week before and after Easter has high crowd potential.

The week before Easter is more crowded - meaning that the entire week is a mess. By mid week the week after Easter the crowds start to thin out, especially in years like 2014 in which Easter falls so late on the calendar.

When Easter falls early on the calendar, both weeks are a nightmare. I wouldn't go either week under those conditions if the trip were free.

I was there Easter week (before) in 2012, gorgeous weather - hot and sunny. Our first full day was Palm Sunday at HS not bad but each day attendance increased steadily. MK was the worst by far but still doable. The upside is longer park hours, we did so much on Sunday night emh at MK which went until 1 or 2 am (can't remember we left at 1am). We were there Sun-Thurs and the crowds were predicted to be 9 or 10 each day. Easter was earlier that year, first week of April.

I always interpreted Easter week to be the week AFTER Easter Sunday because my kids have always been off that entire week every year since they have started school. But according to the crowd calendar it looks as if the week BEFORE Easter Sunday is predicted to be slightly more crowded.

The schools in our area usually have their breaks the week after Easter, so that is when a lot of our trips have been.

This year, though, because Easter is so late in April, a lot of those districts (including the one where my daughters teach) have their breaks this week.

Because Easter is so late this year, I'm not surprised that this week is expected to be more crowded than next week. But, I wouldn't take this year as the norm. When Easter is late in March or early in April, the week after Easter is usually at least as busy, if not busier, than the week before.

I would think Easter week is the week after Easter. That being said, the week after easter is also April school vacation (Apr 21-25) week for Connecticut, Vermont, Massachusetts & Rhode Island (probably for a few other states too). Not to mention that most public schools in the Northeast also have Good Friday off, so that makes it even better for families to make big travel plans for that week.

Many schools in our area are going to a "set" week from year to year due to end of the year testing. They no longer want to rely on when Easter hits so they just pick the first full week of April, which was this past week. Most years it will hit the week before or after Easter but not this year. I really think Spring Break is all over the map, especially this year. However, I view Easter week as the week leading up to Easter starting at Palm Sunday (today).

It would probably be more accurate to say the week leading up to Easter is considered HOLY WEEK. The week following Easter Sunday is technically EASTER WEEK! :goodvibes
Either way... it sure is busy! ;)
