so we are still waiting for MK EMM April dates to be announced .
We had planned MK in Easter Sunday but are assuming there will be no EMM that am so our option would be flip that to the Tues..
TP has Epcot as a 10 and MK as an 8 for Easter .. would we even notice a difference between an 8 and a 10?
We have BOG breakfast res currently on Easter Sunday and GG at Epcot we’d have to rearrange if possible
The Tuesday that week Mk is listed as a 5 so would we even need EMM ??
I just wish they would release their dates and be done with it ha ha
Any thoughts would be great
Thanks

We have been in Disney for Easter in 2017 and 2018. If I recall correctly, MK had extra magic hours most mornings (opening at 7AM or 8AM) each year. That will likely make your BOG breakfast a waste of time, unless its your only opportunity to see Beast's castle during your trip.

I would recommend avoiding MK on Easter Sunday, unless you plan to be there at rope drop (7AM or 8AM) and plan to leave by noon to hop to Epcot. Epcot is a much larger park, so even when crowd levels are higher, that park is able to handle the crowds better and spread everyone out to make things "feel" less crowded.

Lastly, I wouldn't base your entire trip around touring plans park ratings. They are pretty bad, in my opinion. Its much better to have a solid plan and use reasonable logic to make your own judgement calls. For example, if MK has late-night EMH on one evening, I like to be there at rope drop the next morning. Josh from EasyWDW used to do great crowd calendars based on that sort of logic, but he doesn't do that anymore.

Hope this advice helped. I'm happy to talk further.

We used to go over Easter for years until the DD's went off to college. Our Easter plan was always to go to Mass at the Contemporary and then to breakfast and then on to TL. We rent an umbrella and spend a lovely day enjoying the day without the rushing about in the AM. The waterparks are not as crushingly crowded and by renting an umbrella we could enter the park at our leisure and have a seat.

In the good old days MK would open at 8AM and EMH would be every day at MK making it a 7AM opening time over the holiday. But WDW has cut the hours of operation down over the holiday. With people willing to fork over extra $$ why not charge for the extra time in MK.

We'll be going to the water park in April, Easter week, and I was just wondering what you mean by renting an umbrella would guarantee a seat. Sounds like that might be a good idea, would love a little more info.
Thanks

@karensi - The waters parks at Disney rent reserved seating which include 1 Umbrella, 2 lounge Chairs, 2 Chairs, and towels. The cost will vary between seasons, but for Easter week the cost is approx $75 (or it was last month when I called). We are also visiting during Easter week and wanted to rent a reserved spot to secure seating and not have to worry about finding a spot, but I didn’t book them because the normal non-peak season was only about $42. I felt that type of increase was too much so I will get there when the park opens and find a seat that is free. This should be find if arriving at water park opening, however if arriving later in the day I can definitely see the value in knowing that you have a reserved spot waiting for you! That is the way to go on late arrival days.

Note, they do also offer Cabana rentals that come with way more amenities but are closer to $400 (more like in th ball park of $379) for Easter week. The Cabana wasn’t even a consideration for us. I’m sure they are wonderful to have if it’s within someone’s budget for sure.

From a post of mine a few years ago:

We love TL. Nothing says vacation than a tropical theme. We usually pick the busiest day of the trip to go there. It was our Easter Sunday go-to park for years. If you are going during the winter the locals, who are far more used to much warmer weather, tend to avoid water parks. The best days we ever had there was when the temperature went below 70. The water is heated and being from the Northeast anything above 60 degrees is a warm day. One December day we were one of maybe 3-5 families in TL and the lifeguards were wearing winter gear but it was only in the mid-fifties. My tween DD's and DH had the run of the place.

Watch the weather forecast. If heavy thunderstorms are predicted we move the day around. They close the park when there is lightning. Pop up showers aren't an issue.

The best money you could possibly spend is renting an umbrella!! There isn't a lot of shady spots available and I can't sit in the sun. For around $70 you get a reserved umbrella, 2 lounge chairs, 2 low slung beach chairs, a table, a locker rental and 4 towels in a restricted area off to the side. You could probably book it a day or two ahead and still get a spot. They sometime have same day availability but I wouldn't chance it. Call 407-WDW-PLAY to reserve a spot. I sit there and read all day, my idea of a perfect vacation, and don't worry about having shade or saving my seats. We are rope drop people but the water parks don't open until usually 10 AM but I don't feel I need to get there early (like I used to) to get a seat with shade. Most people leave their non-valuables and come and go as they please. There is an entrance to the lazy river close by so my family uses it as a water highway from the other end of the park. There is no through traffic, Getaway Glen as the area is named, is next to Leanin' Palms and on a dead end. They do have cabana's with wait service there that comes with water but they are expensive. My experience is they are rented by families with older grandparents who sit there all day. You could bring coolers with water and food to TL. More than once I have seen large families rent several umbrella's (you are allowed 4 people/umbrella and they hand out wristbands) bring large coolers and have birthday parties or graduation parties. Don't waste your money on the refillable mugs. Bring your own drinks.

Each area umbrella is numbered. Occasionally, someone wanders in and doesn't realize that this is a reserved area and leaves their things and runs off leaving park
personnel to pack up their belonging and take them somewhere when the family that rents the spot shows up. I sit there all day so I usually watch the proceedings with amusement.

Renting an umbrella has completely changed my vacation day there. It went from grit my teeth and get through it for the sake of the kids, hunting for shade, juggling my lunch on my lap and protecting our area from chair poachers to a quiet relaxing day at the beach coming and going as we please.

In terms of park strategy. Get there at 10 AM ride all the biggies, have some lunch, do some smaller things, then the crowds start to thin out mid afternoon and then hit the biggies again. Right before closing the park is pretty empty. During peak weeks we found we were able to have more fun all day between the wave pool and lazy river then at the 4 main parks with just a few attractions per day, big crowds, and long lines.

Take an Uber back and forth. It is very reasonable and convenient. They don't run direct buses to the resorts anymore and getting there is time consuming. We would take a taxi before Uber existed. Wet kids on an air conditioned bus was sometimes unbearable.

We are going for Easter as well. We are flying in on Saturday and we plan on avoiding MK on Sunday and maybe even Monday too. We are planning an EPCOT day for Sunday with dinner at Teppan Edo, cause nothing says Easter like Hibachi!

Just wondering, the umbrella would be for my (adult) DD, son in law and 3 grandsons. That would total 5. You say they only allow 4 per umbrella. Could my DD go in with the 3 boys (so total 4) and then my son in law just enter as a separate person? Do you think they would have a problem if they saw the 5 of them at the umbrella during the day?
I can be pretty sure the 3 boys will be in the water most of the time and either my daughter or son in law will be right there by them so really I think it would be rare that all 5 would be there, under the umbrella together, but just want to make sure it wouldn't be a problem. Or would it be?

TIA
