Our kids are past the Easter basket stage at 13 and 16 but we still want to do something other than candy. Last year they requested an Easter egg hunt (plastic eggs filled with coins, some had quarters, some had pennies). They haven't asked for that this year. This year I was thinking of a gas card for our 16-year-old and a gift certificate for a French manicure for our daughter but those ideas seem pretty lame and unrelated to the true meaning of Easter. Any other ideas out there that won't break the bank?

Well, we have never really stuck with Easter themed stuff. My reasoning was that bunnies and candy weren't really connected to Easter either-at least in a religious sense (although we are not overly religious anyway).

My DD13 and DS15 always get a basket full of gift cards. I put anywhere for $5-$10 on each of them. Blockbuster (so they can rent a game), McDonalds or Burger King, Movie Gift Cards (good for admission or the concession stand), Toys R Us...just to name a few. This year I went to our bank (Commerce) and I bought just one big gift card-a $40 Commerce Visa and that way they can use it anywhere and for anything they want. (You can get any $ amount on the card that you want and you can reload it later on if you want to...or just destroy it when its all used up). There is no fee to get one if you have an account with them. I normally put a few small candy items like jellybeans and a very small bunny in the basket still just to fill it out. I've found that they love being able to use the gift cards-especially if they go out with their friends-for some reason it just makes them feel like they are cool to whip out the old plastic! :cool1:

My DS is 17 and here is what is going into his basket:

Axe body spray and wash
Hair goo
Starbucks gift card
Batting cage tokens
A Webkins so he can play with his sister (he's just gonna love it:rolleyes1 )
Some golf Tee's & balls
1 chocolate bunny - Dh insists that the kids have a bunny in the basket.

DD 8 is getting:

Hair doodads
Bubble bath
Gum
A new Webkins
Some cute athletic socks
Batting cage tokens
Softballs
1 chocolate bunny

How about some Spring items:

* flip flops
* bathing suit
* sunglasses
* lipgloss
* fun rings/earrings/necklace in eggs

DS is 14 and in his basket will be a PS lll game, Summer Pj's and a small chocolate bunny.

My 13 y/o is not a candy eater. She'll do jelly beans or fruit snacks, but that is it. I usually but make-up, nail polish, body sprays, "fun" jewelry, books, gift cards, hair doo dads, video game cartidges.

My 13 yr old son asked for iTunes cards to purchase tunes for his Ipod.

Glad you mentioned this! My kids can really use those and I meant to get them weeks ago...but I forgot! Call it parental senility! :lmao:
