Ok, need to get one for Sunday. Who has the best tasting that doesn't break the bank? There are only three of us, so I don't need anything huge, but I want it to taste good!
I always buy the Cook's Brand BUTT. That's what my family likes (honestly, I'd rather have a spiral cut, but you gotta go with what the in-laws and DH like to keep the peace )
We always buy a small bone - in - ham. We cook it in our slow cooker with 2 cups of brown sugar for 7-8 hours and it turns out great every single time. Easy - and the leftovers are always eaten, and so easy to clean up!
Also look for a 1/4 cut spiral ham. I found one in the store a couple of weeks ago. I bought it for sandwich meat. It cost about $10. Cheaper and better for you than cold cuts.
We love Honey Baked but when it's just the 3 of us, we go for the Costco ham. It comes with its own honey glaze that you can add, depending on your taste. It's really good and I got a rather large one (8lbs maybe) for $20.
I prefer the butt end to the shank end of the ham. The cost per pound is higher but there is less bone and the meat around the end of the shank is hard to get at and use.
As far as the brands, I like the Lancaster brand which is sold in the Philly area. But Cooks makes a good ham too. Not everyone likes a strong smokey flavor.
I use Cook's ham also. My grocery store has it on sale for less than .99 cents a lb this week. I baste it in pineapple juice, OJ, ginger ale, and stick some cloves in it.
Ok I bought the Aldi Ham today- trying it out tonite (it's not my Easter meal but DH loves ham so he gets it today) Hoping it's yummy.
In the past I have lucked out the Tuesday AFTER Easter scoring a ham for next to nothing from Trader Joe's and it was delicious! So I am guessing that trader Joe's ham is always delicious.

I posted this in another thread, but wanted to say again that my Costco, here in Colorado, has $100.00 gift cards (two $50.00 cards) to Honey Baked Ham marked down to approximately $49.94. With the $5.00 off coupons available on the Honey Baked Ham web site, it makes them much less expensive.
My family loves Cooks. We get a 1/2 ham for the 3 of us and have plenty of leftovers. Only 99 cents/lb at Copps/Pick N Save - with no minimum purchase.
