Another lie in today (as we’d already been in the US over 2 weeks at that point we no longer had the benefit of the time difference to help us make the parks for opening!) and drove to today’s park: Animal Kingdom, arriving at 9:45. It soon became clear that today was a little chilly, not cold to us but most people had on jeans/coats/scarves so we stood out a bit in our summer wear! We headed straight to Expedition Everest to get FPs then waited in the 10 minute standby line. Tour guide Mike’s green days were working pretty well for us so far!

Next we explored the Maharajah Jungle Trek and preordered our Picnic in the Park: Vegetarian wraps, orzo pasta, a brownie and a rice krispie treat plus water. Dinosaur next, which was a walk on, then we got FPs for Kilimanjaro Safari and explored the Pangani Forest Trail.

By now we were quite hungry so we picked up our picnic and ate it at a table near the Dawa Bar where some drummers and dancers were just setting up so we had some unexpected but welcome entertainment during our lunch! After we’d finished eating we drove to Publix to pick up some more water and snacks then on to Downtown Disney for some stuff from Basin for me and Goofy’s Candy Company treats for both of us. We both got giant oreos with toppings for a snack credit, yum! Next stop was CSR to drop off our purchases and have a mini break then back to Animal Kingdom (I think we were one of about three cars entering the park at this point!) First port of call was the train to Rafiki’s Planet Watch and then we used our Kilimanjaro Safari FPs (stopping for photos with Stitch on the way!) and Everest FPs.

It was getting near park closing time now so we wandered round the Discovery Island Trail and did a little shopping on the way out before driving to Boma for our 6:45 dinner ADR. It was a very nice meal, not as amazing as our experience with Chef TJ in 2007 though that was a lot to live up to! After dinner we drove back to CSR for a chill and an early night.

What is the Picnic in the Park?

It's something they offer as a CS type meal option in AK now... You order it in the morning to pick up later in the day. It's mainly sandwiches or rotisserie chicken with sides and desserts, not sure if they've added more options since our trip :)

great day - how did you get that amazing waterfalling like mist photo?- i have tried but just can't seem to get the right setting and end up with a blur :lmao:
