Easiest Way to Segment ... Call or Email??

My ADR window opens July 2 and we've narrowed down our dining "wish list" ... and have decided that our best option is to go with the DxDP for the first 6 of our 7 night trip.

I have not segmented my reservation yet ... originally thought we would be going with our usual 7 night reg DP routine. Now I need to and really don't want to have our hotel reservation messed up (Standard View 2BR at BLT).

So is it easier to just call MS and ask them to segment or should I email MS instead? (If I email, what email address should I use?)

Also, when I call or go online to make my ADRs is it better to say I'm on the DP or not? (I remember reading somewhere that one way over the other seemed to increase availability.)

DW called this passed week and put the DxDP on our reservation for Dec. She told MS that she will adding the DP later on in the year. A few minutes after she hangs up the phone, I received an email from DVC showing the reservation was segmented with no dining plan for the first 5 days and the DxDP for the last 2 days. They segmented the reservation without her asking for it. I didn't have a problem booking my dining reservation without the dining plan.

Your success either way depends on the intelligence, experience, and attitude of the CM processing your request. Pretty hard to judge via email, but much easier to work with someone on the phone.

Many members will tell you that they hang up and call back until they find a CM who they feel comfortable working with.

I tried to segment via email and got a reply saying that I needed to call MS.

I'd make the ADRs before I asked MS to segment, especially if you plan or want to use the 180 + 10 perk.

I don't think it makes any difference if you have a dining plan or not at the 180 day mark unless you want something that reqeuires pre-payment or a credit card hold. It didn't make any difference for me and I have not added a dining plan to my reservation. I might, depending on how the credits work for the Candlelight Dinner packages.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I will call MS tomorrow and hopefully get the reservation segmented and the DxDP added. (Fingers crossed for a knowledgeable CM!) I figure I will do this late morning/early afternoon after the "11/7 month out callers" get their chance first thing in the morning.

Since our "segmenting" happens right at the end of our trip, the 180 + 10 rule shouldn't be affected ... and since we are hopng for CRT and HDDR, it would be nice to have credits for those up front. (Though, if they are not available, I will call back and go the "non-dining plan" route.)

I ended up opting not to segment ... we have a WL (hoping for a dedicated 2BR instead of the lockoff we have now) that has not come through.

The CM explained that if I segmented my reservation for Dining Plan purposes, I would also need to segment my waitlist ... which could lead to us needed to change villas on our last night.

No one in my family is interested in doing that so we've opted for the 7 nights dxdp.

The CM did say that even if I added a dp now, if our WL came through I could call back and then attempt to segment the reservation "pending inventory availability". We're there through NYE and into the start of Marathon weekend - standard view at BLT - so I'm not holding out on additional "inventory availability" should our WL come through.
