Earplanes - do they work?

Hi -

The last time my friends son flew his ears really hurt - his mom says hers hurt when she flies too - i was wondering if Earplanes would be the answer for them?

Any one ever use them?

I was hoping to hear that!! Do you think a 9 year old would be able to put them in himself? Is it tricky to get them in correctly? Can you hear around them? Do you have to keep them in the entire time you are on the plane? Can you use earphones with them????

we use them all the time. my dd has used them since she was 6. very easy to use, they do make a childs size. yes you can use earphones, but it is a little tricky, get the larger size headphones, like you can buy if you fly jet blue, we saved ours and use them for flying, earbuds are tricky but will work, they just fall out if you move-the earbuds that is. we take our earplanes out once we get in the air, and put them back in before landing.

No, it's really easy.

Yes, although everything is a little muffled.

You just use them on assent and dessent.

Can you use earphones with them????

I guess you could use the kind that are go on the outside of your ear, but you couldn't use earbuds. But since you take them out once you're at cruising altitude, it shouldn't matter too much.

They work great and children can easily use them. I'm petite and I prefer using the child's size for myself, btw (I guess my ears are small like the rest of me!) Over the ear headphones will work but earbuds won't. A couple of other things that might help: if it's okay with your doctor, taking a sudafed or other decongestant before the flight, learning to clear your ears by using the valsalva maneuver and not being asleep for descent. I was a flight attendant for 16 years so I've had lots of practice with keeping my ears clear!
