Early September weather

I would love to hear your experiences going to WDW in early September. We are going the first 2 weeks. I know it's hurricane season, blah, blah, blah, but what have YOUR experiences been?

I have this recurring nightmare that it's going to rain for 2 weeks straight

Also do they close the waterparks if it rains or does it depend on the severity of the rain?

We went last September, the week after Labor Day, and it was terrific. The only time it rained was overnight a couple of times. Other than that, it was perfect Orlando weather, sunny and 85 every day.

I wouldn't worry too much. Even if it does rain, that's the best time to be in the park cause everyone else goes back to their resort! We were there the second week in September last year, and I think it rained sporadically one day. Also, with the crowd lever being so low, you are really only out in the heat long enough to get from one place to another.

This does not answer your question but just wanted to say... We will be there then too. We arrive on September 1st. I was panicking about the weather but now I'm fine about it. We have been in hurricane season all 5 times we have been so i dont no why i was so worried about it (although we have never been in September before). I plan to go and have a great time what ever the weather. I'm expecting rain and wishing for none. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that there's not a hurricane. Hope you have a great trip!

It can be summer hot still and pop up thunderstorms are common but even a tropical systems should last only a day or two.

Hurricanes are usually down to tropical storm by the time they get to Orlando and the hotels are all well built!

This has been one of our concerns also as we are in the States for four weeks from 23-August (including a 10 day DCL cruise). We have never been this time of year before so it will be a new experience for us!

Early September is our favorite time to go to WDW. We have taken several 10+ day WDW September vacations. We'll be there this year from Aug 30 - Sept 2, then cruise, and then WDW from Sept9 -15th.
The only rain we've had in the past is the kind that pop up and end quickly. We keep rain ponchos in our backpack and just put them on and keep on going. If it's REALLY bad, we'll stop in a gift store, see an inside show, or grab a bit to eat. If it's bad enough for us to go inside, it's usually a "park emptying" kind of rain - which is great when it stops raining!!!

Here's hoping for a hurricane free August/September.

I am going Sept. 17 and am worried about hurricanes also! I just think that I will cross that bridge when I come to it. There isn't much sense worrying about it right now. Besides my trip is already booked!!! I have been a few times in Sept. and it has always been nice. Let's hope my luck keeps up!!!!

we usually go the 3rd week of Sept. last trip it was sunny, hot. no rain tho it did get cloudy/overcast one day.....can't wait only 60 more days!

I keep hearing the "ITS HURRICANE SEASON" comment too. Im getting pretty tired of it, since we have been before, and like people said, it was gorgeous! It even rained a little which was a relief to me. I guess people think of Katrina and panic......This one woman at my kiddos dentist overheard my DD telling the assistant that we were going to WDW in August and September. The woman ran over to me, to tell me they own a time share there, and its hurricane season. I told her I wasnt worried about it, and Disney told me they have only closed the park once due to weather. The woman then told me its a lie...it was closed for days last year. I didnt try to educate her, I just said well we are used to the rain! I figure itll be one of those not to forget trips if anything does happen. We went to WL one year in September, and it did flood the downstairs. There were hundreds of frogs on the windows INSIDE, and they were hopping all over. I think it was record setting rainfalls. The hotel was PACKED with people because the parks after 9/11 closed at 5pm. We just did laundry and went shopping at the local outpost.

We are going Sept 9-18, am hoping that the weather is nice and huricanes stay away, leaving in OK we get tornado's and have to worry about it starting in May, I just hope don't have to worry about the weather there too.

This Sept will be my sixth consecutive sept trip. The one thing I can say about the weather is it will be HOT, HOT, and HOTTER. Of courese there is a chance of hurricanes... I have been at Disney when they clsoed the parks because of it but hopefully that wont happen. I have never experienced rain (except for the hurricane time)so maybe we were just lucky

It's funny...

When I first changed our reservations from December to September (9-16), I was a little worried about a hurricane.

But then I got to thinking. Even under a "worst case scenario," we're not going to be at home...we'll be at WDW. We're gonna have fun no matter what. It's vacation.

I'm just excited about the trip. Whatever happens.

And as someone who has only been to WDW during busy summer months, I'm really looking forward to these "low crowds" I keep reading about.
