What's up with early October? Trying to book a short stay, check in 10/6 and check out 10/9 for 2 adults and 1 kid. There are very few resorts with openings unless I'm doing something wrong. Is there something going on that weekend?

In addition to Columbus Day weekend, there is Food& Wine & the Gartner Synposium ends on the 5th. Most likely some attendees decide to stay a few extra day

Gartner, Columbus Day, religious holidays, more and more schools have fall breaks, etc. It's a brutal month!

Yep. That's the end of Gartner Week, and some people stick around to have a little fun.

...and it's Halloween time at MK- a lot of people come to attend the Halloween parties. October is now one of WDW's busiest months.

Our trip is Oct 6-13. We are going because it's our fall break. I'm expecting brutal crowds the way the resorts are booked up. (We booked back in November!)

October used to be an ideal time to go, but the events -- all mentioned above -- have made the time as busy as ever.

We've never been in October and found cheap flights and booked it as a suprise for our kiddos without really checking into the busyness of the parks.....I'm a little worried. Our dates are 10/ 9 through 10/18. We're hoping with EMM & MNSSHP it'll make it feel less crowded?

It is not so bad as the holidays but expect MK to be busy on non-attendance nights, Epcot to be packed on weekends, and DHS busy any night with SWAGS.

Go into it with a good plan and realistic expectations. I find if I go to MK on party days instead of non party days, it's not quite as crowded. Yes, I miss some of the evening stuff like fireworks, but to me it's worth it to deal with fewer people. Plan to hit the parks as early in the day as you can - try to be the first in line on EMH mornings. Then when the parks get busy around lunchtime, take a break back at your resort. It will still be plenty hot enough for swimming. I have been to the parks on Christmas Day and managed to have a good time and stay one step ahead of the worst of the crowds. It's certainly possible to do the same in October. Have a great time!

Note also that when you look at October hours, last year they pushed a bunch of opens to 8AM, not EMH, at MK.
