I understand that this perk of staying at an on-site hotel is scheduled to end on 12/31/2011. What's the conventional wisdom on that date being extended?

pfft. I don't believe it will end then. Where have you heard this?

If technical problems arise or the opening of an attraction is delayed another Islands of Adventure attraction will open for Early Park Admission. They said that for last year as well. I wouldn't worry about it. The onsite hotels and parks tend to have a set of rules for each calendar year. Booking for 2012 won't happen for quite a while yet. I imagine at that time, the early entrance thing will change to 2012. There has always been some sort of early entrance at one of the parks.
