Waiting for Dec. 4th-13th studio at either SSR or OKW... REALLY wanting this to come through (right now we're booked at ASM)

I was shocked that the studios were even full at SSR or OKW (I know I know, we changed our vacation plans and booked late, in August so we could take our daughter for the first time)

Because our trip kinda falls over 2 weeks I'm worried our waitlist won't come through.

Does anyone else have any experience getting lucky around this time and/or think mine might come through?:confused3

I can tell you that the dates you're looking for, haven't been available for about 4 months so far. I wish you the best of luck, but I'd have a fall back plan if I were you.

early december is one of the very busiest times to book DVC. your odds are not very good, i'm afraid.

good luck.

yikes... well now I know. Guess it's All-Star Movies for this DVC member :(

speaking of which... I've always wondered this. Don't Disney have some of the rooms at the DVC resorts specific for those that want to pay per night to stay there (not dedicated to DVC bookable rooms)? If that's true, why doesn't Disney release some of these rooms say 2-3 weeks prior and allow those on waitlists to fill up those rooms?

not sure exactly but if the points to reserve those rooms are from trades by other members, disney may need to make some cash to pay for the trades. transferring rooms out of cash inventory is apparently pretty difficult even in situations where it is possible (i.e. "breakage" inventory - and there is typically none of that in early december).

here is more information on where the cash inventory comes from:

There are two separate inventories -- one for booking with cash and one for booking for points.

Anyone can book a cash reservation via Disney CRO, and DVC members can book one via DVC MS at a 25% discount, subject to availability. There are four major sources of inventory for cash reservation:

*Exchanges: The number one source of cash rooms is actually from the Member inventory. This occurs when members exchange/trade outside of the DVC resorts. This includes using your points to book the Disney Collection (hotels at the Disney theme parks and the Disney Cruise Line), Concierge Collection, and the Adventurer Collection. When a member trades outside of DVC, the points used to book the outside reservation are assigned to DVD to rent out. This does not apply to the World Passport Collection.

*Breakage: Another source of cash reservations includes Member inventory that has not been reserved by members using points. Any Member inventory not reserved by members using points is made available to Disney CRO at the 60-day mark for cash reservations by the general public. This is actually beneficial to DVC members, in that the association earns “breakage” income on these rooms rather than letting them sit empty.

*ROFR: Another source of cash reservations is the inventory of declared points owned by DVD. These points are typically acquired by the ROFR process. Since DVD owns the points, they can rent them out.

*Undeclared: These are the units that have been built by the developer that has not yet been declared into the condominium association. Since DVD controls these units, they may be rented out for cash reservations.

I was waitlisted for the 13th and 14th at OKW (hospitality house area) and it just came through 2 days ago.

If you're up for changing resorts, I'd shorten your waitlist to give you a better chance of something coming through. Then, if that is filled try for the rest of the dates. As it is, ALL of your dates would have to come through in the same category room for you to get it, and the odds go from very very low to near impossible with the quantity of dates you're looking at.

What I'd do: Since the 4th is a Friday, and higher points anyway I'd plan to stay at the all stars on the nights of the 4th & 5th (save some points). Put my waitlist to cover the nights of Sunday, the 6th through Thurs, the 10th (dvcrs tend to block off these 5 as groups), and then again (this is the HARD part as you'll be going back to 'lesser' accommodations) return to the all stars for the rest of the stay, again, saving those weekend points.

You are allowed two active waitlists at any given time, but the way it was described to me is they cannot have adjacent dates. You can call MS and see what they recommend doing.

if I change my waitlists now... won't I go back to the bottom of the list

My bet is you're already at or near the bottom of the list if you recently created your waitlist. I still believe it will be better to loose that position and go for the shorter, more likely WL to come through than the near impossible.

Perhaps others with more WL experience than I have can chime in here (I've only been a member for just over a year)

I extended my stay from leaving on the 11th to leaving on the 13th. I am booked at POP for free dining, but there was no room there. I decided to call MS to see if any studios were available for those two nights. I was told that I could have BW if I didn't mind changing rooms. So, I have a preferred studio for the 11th, and a standard studio for the 12th..waitlisted for a preferred view on the 12th.
My friend has the exact same situation as me, but she booked earlier than I did. She just got her waitlist...I'm hoping that mine comes through as well. If not, no biggie. At least I'm at BW. Don't mind livng out of a suitcase for a few nights if I have to move.

I think that it was the weekend of the taping of the Christmas parade, but I never got that one Sunday night last year at DVC, I was at Pop. I agree that you should break up your waitlist if you want DVC for at least some of the time.

Bobbi:goodvibes

I went on the waitlist sometime in the end of July/early Aug.

What you might want to do is give MS a call and check for individual days. You might get lucky doing it this way. Of course, you may end up having to split between ASM and DVC but it could be worth it.

I think (and someone will correct me if I am wrong) is that you can then just modify your WL to drop the days you get individually. So, if you call and get, say the 1st 2 nights--book those and then change the WL for the rest of the stay. Keep calling to see if you can book night 3, etc. and try to fill it day by day.

Good luck!

Does anyone know if I change my waitlist (to be shorter), do I move to the bottom of the list?

sorry - yes, i'm pretty sure you would move to the bottom.

not sure they even allow waitlisting for individual days any more...i thought they changed that rule...

be aware that they'll end the waitlist 30 or 31 days out...so you'd have to call and confirm that you'd like to continue to waitlist up through 7 days out.
