Earliest Space Mountain closes in Sept?

We will be there Sept. 7-14. We scheduled hoping to miss end of summer and Labor Day crowds. But the more I read, the more I realize that possibly Space and probably HM will be closed for holiday overlays to be installed. HM is not a must do for us but Space is. So, if this is the case, we are considering bumping up the trip a few days. TIA

This past year was only the second time that they have done the Halloween overlay for Space Mountain, so there's not much data on the subject, unfortunately. I'm going to search and see if I can find when it closed the last two years...

ETA: Okay, I found on one forum that Space Mountain closed on Tuesday, September 8th, 2009 to undergo the overlay and reopened Sept. 25th (I remember because I went on Sept. 24th for my birthday and was bummed that it wasn't open yet). I'm not sure when it closed last year.

In 2010 it was scheduled to open with the overlay on 9/17/2010. It closed early though because of some technical something-or-other that needed repair. Then it re-opened briefly before it went down again for the holiday layover to go in.

The Space Mountain layover only takes a few days (3?) to put in and 1 day to take out. So... if they stick with similar dates, ride Space Mtn. early during your visit. if you are lucky, you MAY get to ride both versions, but you might miss the Ghost Galaxy version by a few days.

Thanks!! I was a little worried about the long closure in 2009. Hopefully they don't do that again. We have 4-day PHs but thinking about upgrading to 5-day. That would be awesome if we could do both versions. Still thinking about bumping up a few days though. Anyone know what Labor Day crowds are like?

Labor day weekend is busy, but right after almost every kid is in school, so things drop fast.
