Earlier flight with layover?

We currently have a 3:50pm flight out of Columbus to get to Orlando the day before our cruise. DH wants to get to Orlando earlier. Maybe go to the Halloween party. But the direct flight out of Columbus will cost us over 100 more. Thinking of taking a earlier flight and getting to Orlanda around noon. Layover 45 min Atlanta. We are flying Southwest. I was stranded once in Atlanta as a teenager with no parents. This place is huge!! Concerned 45 min will not be enough. Or am I over thinking this? I am worried my bags won't show up. And I need to check bags we are taking a 7 day cruise. It will be just my husband and I ... Change or not to change......

While ATL is huge, Southwest operates out of only one terminal and all their gates are within a short 5 minute walk.

Over $100 more for two people for a direct flight vs connection? I'd do the direct flight. However, if your first flight is reasonably on time, 45 minutes is fine in Atlanta (definitely for SW, and you even have time change concourses if you were on a different airline).

It would be over 100/person. We will get to stay with southwest. no changing airlines. Im going to hold off. I think, Im just not a fan of layovers, the last time we had a layover we were late for the cruise ship. Granted we are leaving over 24 hours in advance. I still worry
