Since I heard the CS in DHS is so terrible, I was wondering if it is possible to get sandwiches from DTD at Earl of Sandwich and bring those into DHS with us to eat while we wait for the show? If not, where do you all eat before the show?

Well, sure, it's possible... but you'd need to get the sandwiches, then get from Downtown Disney to DHS (easier if you have a car, but not particularly convenient - and don't forget, many of the EoS sandwiches are either heated or spoilable, depending on the length of time between prep and eating, as well as the outside temp).
You'd need to allow plenty of time to get from DtD to DHS, then park if necessary, enter the park, get to the Fantasmic! Theater in time to get seats, then wait for the show. I assume this is the show to which you refer?

It just seems like a LOT of extra effort. The Counter Service options at DHS may not be gourmet, but it's not horrible. It's food.

Toy Story Pizza Planet seems to get good marks and if you have a child in the group there is no kids menu, so everyone orders from the same menu. I'm sure you could find something you liked somewhere in the park.

If you really want to "pack" a meal. Your resort Grab 'n Go would have an assosrtment to choose from. Also Main St Bakery in MK has sandwiches to go and we enjoyed ours. If you'll be in DHS that afternoon before the show I'd just pick CS there, but if you are coming to DHS just before showtime and want to bring something to eat while waiting in line I think packing is a good idea. I don't think you can get in line, send someone for food and have that person rejoin you in the line. I think that's against the rules at Disney.:confused3

when we dont go to a pkg for Fantasmic.....we go to Rosies right across from the entrance.......their cheeseburgers and pizza in the next stall over are pretty good......

Backlot express is pretty decent as well. It's food- nothing more nothing less in DHS unfortunately. THe pulled pork was actually enjoyable though.
