Hey guys, we are taking my fiancé's little brother down to the world for our wedding in December. He is 10 and has down syndrome. He is not a fan of loud noises, ie. fireworks and such. We want to bring ear plus with us but I want him to be able to pick and choose when he wants them in and have control over this. Although I do not want to have to have the chance of loosing the typical tiny earplugs.
I know they have earplug headband type of things for gun shooting ranges. Anyone know of a brand that would be good for a smaller child? I just want him to have quick access to them and control over them if that makes sense. Any help would be appreciated.

We just bought a pair off Amazon for shooting, but my 7 year old, my husband and my two year old all wear them and they seem to fit EVERYONE fine. They block out the major noise, but you can still hear someone beside you speaking in a normal voice. But, it dials down the big stuff well. There are excellent reviews on Amazon from parents of special needs children that use them for this purpose specifically. Good luck and you are awesome for thinking of him!!

I should probably add... my 2 year old and 7 year old ARE NOT shooting. They just like the run around the house in the hearing protectors!

I had gotten something like that for DD9 ear plugs on a cord I think we got them in Lowes where they sell the chain saws. She wasent thrilled with them so we got her regular ear plugs that came with a small case. She likes them better and can put them in herself. Doublse plus they were Pink ones and Purple ones and she is super girly lol. You also might want to call a gun range I am sure they would have something for you if you cant wait for delivery from Amazon ;)

We also have the Peltor Junior earmuffs for our 2 autistic little guys. They are super comfortable and I find it amazing that they block out the loud noise but you can have a conversation with the person next to you. I tested them out when we got them :o) They fit my 5 yr old but easily adjust so I could wear them as well.

Thanks for the help. Is there any other options that might be a bit smaller? Like I said I know that there are smaller ones for the shooting range and they literally look like normal ear plugs on a headband and sit at the base of your neck. And yes plenty of time for shipping, I like to be ahead of the game.

If you get the ones Bitsmommy posted, definitely have your fiance's brother try them ahead of time. One reason why a lot of people recommend the Peltor earmuffs is because many children with sensory sensativities don't like the sensation of having something IN their ear, but are okay with something that fits over their ear. My DD is this way. The earmuff style protection is the only kind that she will tolerate wearing.

Yes.
Good point. I've heard that before.

We only use the ear muff/phone styles at the school i work at just for this reason.

Before you go i would have the child try it out several times before. Play a few games with it soo it feels safe and comfortable.
