Ear plugs for air plane ride

Does anyone here use ear plugs for the airplane ride?

Do the ear plugs that help with ear pain, also help keep out all the noise on the plane?

I wondering if I can use regular ear plugs? Or is there a difference between the two kinds of plugs?

DW has an awful time with air travel and her ears. She spent much of our trip to New Orleans trying to unplug her ears and did so just in time for the return flight home. I knew she wouldn't want a similar experience on our trip to England this past September and bought her a set of "Ear Planes."
These are no ordinary earplugs. These specialized ear plugs seem to have a valve of some sort -- I have no clue how they work but I do know that they do work. Insert them before boarding the airplane, remove at altitude -- replace before descent, remove on the ground. They are good for two flight segments. DW had NO ear troubles this trip whatsoever. She was able to hear me speaking to her in the airport when she had the Ear Planes in and, of course, able to hear perfectly well without them at altitude.

We have used Earplanes as well. They didn't work for DD at all. The only thing that helps her a little is to take Sudafed an hour before the flight (her Dr. recommended this). We did that and used the Earplanes last year. This year just the Earplanes and it was bad! The flight attendant even said they don't work very well unfortunately.

Used earplanes for our flight and had no problems. You need to insert them an hour before take off and leave them in until you reach cruising altitude. And then put them in again an hour before landing.

Another vote for earplanes, both my mother and i used them on our trip in August and they worked great for us!

Earplanes are the only way I was able to get my DD back on a plane. She was in so much pain during her very first flight. She used earplanes the next time and they worked great. She won't fly without them now. This is the first time (on several different trip boards) I read that they didn't work for someone, so I'm assuming that in most cases they really help most people.

Ear Planes work extremely well for my DD and I. Our flight is about 2 hours to WDW so we put them in as soon as we board the plane and don't take them out until we pull up to the gate. Never had a problem since using them. Good luck...they are at least worth a try!!

I use sudafed and regular ear plugs if I need them. Regular ear plugs are just to relax me and block out noise. They really help. The sudafed is enough to prevent the bad ear/head pain I used to get.

I have earplanes but haven't tried them for noise or pain.

My DH has terrible problems with his ears when we fly. Ear Planes work like a charm. We usually buy them right at the airport store, but I just happened to see them at Kohl's for $5.99 and bought his for our trip on 10/24.

They have earplanes at Walmart and I am guessing they have them at other drug stores as well. Don't remember how much I paid for ours but it was well worth it to me.

I use Earplanes for every plane trip. I have a terrible problem with ear pain during flights and then my ears stay plugged for sometimes days after the flight. It is awful! I put the Earplanes in when I sit down in the plane and take them out when I am off the plane. Sometimes my ears hurt a little during the flight and they are a little plugged after the flight, but it is nothing like it used to be!

I do have a problem with hearing while the Earplanes are in my ears. On one trip, the flight attendant asked me what I wanted to drink, and apparently I yelled my answer back at her because she seemed to take offense to my answer! I certainly didn't mean to be offensive - I just couldn't hear anything!

I highly recommend Earplanes!

We take our sudafed at the airport. Once on the plane we use our reusable earplanes. We can hear fine with them in, but have to take them out if we want to use headphones. Also, I carry nasal spray and spray before we take off. Before doing all this, I suffered terrible. Now, it's not too bad. I'm not sure if the earplanes alone would work. I just don't want to take the chance.

I started using ear planes last year on my honeymoon trip and it worked so well, I bought new ones for this year to use.

My basics:

When they are in correctly, you can hear ok, but when I go to talk no one can hear me unless I talk really loud. I tend to not talk while I fly. If they are not in correctly they don't work at all for me.

This time we flew jet blue. I put the head set on behind my ear planes half on my ears and could hear through the headset.

I think the box said they are only good for 2 uses maybe four.
