Ear Planes...do they work?

We used to use those for our DS and they worked great! Made flying much more pleasant. He would put them in right before take-off, once we were at cruising altitude he'd take them out. Just had to remember about 30min before arrival to put them back in.

Good luck,

Suzy

My daughter says they help her tremendously. This year, I bought a set for my 8yo son too -- his ears don't bother him as much as hers, but I figure it can only help.

My son would have ear pain for days after flights. He had several ear operations in the past. We saw ear planes at the airport and picked them up before our flight and he never had a problem after that.

Yes they help a lot! :thumbsup2 I can't fly without them. I have terrible ear pain when flying, I mean choking back tears type pain and when I'd land I couldn't ear for days! Using the ear planes makes the pain a lot more tolerable, not gone, but a lot better. And I can hear when we land!

I don't know what it says on the children's size package, but on the adult size, it says to pull down slightly on the earlobe while inserting. This makes the earplane work even better for me (as opposed to just inserting). Another firm believer here. The first time I flew, before I found out about earplanes, I wanted to ask the flight attendant to ask the pilot to land the plane and let me off!! The pain was unbearable. Hope these work as well for you.

Not sure if this would work on a plane but when diving to equalize the pressure you hold your nose and softly breathe out. The air goes through your ears and equalizes the pressure. Give it a try right now and you'll see what I mean. :)

I was out at lunch today and bought 4 pairs 2 adults and 2 Childrens for our trip April 26th. 2 for my girls ages 7 and 6, one pair for my Dad, and a pair for me. My DH and my Step Mom have no problems with their ears when flying but mine kill me. Since using these no problem. Also my 6 year old has fallen asleep on taxi out to the runway and slept until we landed and got to the gate and never woke up with ear pain. This things are amazing. Never fly without them.

I'm glad they work so well for others, but I didn't find much relief when I tried them. I use Sudafed to open my eustacian tubes and I constantly sip water during decent to enable frequent swalling. It works much better for me, but again, I'm glad Earplanes work for others.

Do you really need to buy new ones after just one round trip like the package says or has anyone re-used them for longer?

We usually use ours 2-3 times before buying new ones, they seem to work just as well whether it's the first time or third time using them.

This was how I use to get. My dr. told me to take either sudafed or tylenol sinus as soon as we board or right before. Then spray afrin as the plane is taking off. I do all that and put the earplanes in and I have no pain at all. I won't travel without doing any of it.

I think the key to Ear Planes is to put them in before take-off. Last time I waited just a few minutes because I was busy with the kids, and they didn't work as well. I also think it helps to keep them in during the whole flight instead of waiting until the descent, which is worse than take-off for my ears.

I used them for the first time in January. They were awesome for me! I had a sinus infection for 3 days prior to departure (which came with me on vacation) and I did not feel any additional discomfort with the earplanes in. I had a horrible sinus headache anyways, but I am sure the earplanes prevented the added pain of the pressure changes. My DD4 used them and never complained of ear pain. DH was sitting with DD2 and he was supposed to put hers in and he didn't because she was sleeping. She didn't wake up until we were on the ground. She didn't wear them on the return flight either and fell asleep then also. I bought 3 more pairs for our upcoming October trip.

CVS makes their own store brand version of Ear Planes and I've been using them for about a year. I've found that as long as I'm not congested by a cold or sinus infection to start with, they work great for me and my ears stay clear. If I start the flight with congestion and fluid in my ears, then at least it doesn't seem to get any worse when I use them. I use the same pair for the entire roundtrip but dispose of them when I get home. For PVD-MCO trips, I leave them in the entire flight. When I flew to Europe last summer, I did remove them for the middle of the flight so I could wear headphones for the IFE and didn't notice a problem.
