Ear Piercing Age?

I was 12 when I was first allowed to pierce. I was 14 when I got them double pierced. After the second piercing I started having issues where I could not wear earrings for any length of time without them itching horribly (even high quality gold posts). It's a bit better now, but I still generally don't wear earrings except when dressing up because my ears will itch.

If I have a girl, I'm on the bandwagon for piercing early. I remember how jealous I was of the one girl in Kindergarten that had hers pierced. I don't think DH has a particular opinion about it. However, other piercings (not ears), they gotta wait until they're out of the house.

A lot of people assume gold earrings are best if you have issues, but that's not necessarily the case. I can't wear gold or sterling silver earrings, or even surgical steel; I can only wear titanium.

DD7 wants her ears pierced really bad and I've talked her into getting them done when she's 8 in March. We'll get them done over spring break when I can keep an eye on them and keep them clean.

I had problems with my earrings and had my holes close up. They just got irritated and itchy. I don't miss them.

I was 12. DDs were 10 & 11. They have not gotten infections, but DD12 had the back stick into the back of her ear and she had to take out her earrings for a little while for it to heal. She is a little gun shy about wearing earrings now. DD11 is still wearing her piercing studs!

My DD was 16 because I personally wanted nothing to do with it....it's just a weird hang-up of mine, I found it freaky. I can stick contacts in my eyes so you would think sticking earrings in would be no big deal but just makes me squeemish. Now, I can see people with earrings and think nothing of it -- just putting them in/taking them out bugs me.

This is me! I had mine done as a tween and had so much trouble with them I let them close up shortly after. Now the thought of helping anyone with their earrings makes my stomach turn. I have shared my experience with DDs 13 and 10 and they have no desire to poke holes in themselves. Their curly hair is usually covering their ears anyway so what's the point. It is decoration enough :goodvibes

If DD13 wanted them, I would let her with the understanding I am not touching them because I might puke. DD10 would probably want help, so no.

I was 5, my grandma talked me into it (funny how when I was 15 she talked me into my belly button piercing and when I turned 18 she talked me into a tattoo- I think she was living vicariously through me... these were things that I'd come up with on my own, came to her saying I wanted the piercing or the tattoo, but I was being a chicken and wavering back in forth)

I remember freaking out about the ears because back then they did it in the doctor's office and used these piercing things that pushed through and stayed like a hoop for 5 minutes or something, they didn't use a gun. Those were the only holes in my ears that never had problems either.

I'm having a girl so I need to find out when it is allowed now.

Edited to add, I noticed a lot of people said hispanic cultures pierce those ears as soon as they can, and I remember my dad (his side of the family is puerto rican) telling me he was happy my mom and grandma finally got it done because his side of the family wanted it done asap.

We don't pierce our babies.

My husband was adamant that It not be done until dating age because he said it was tantamount to make-up. I could never get him to tell me a single girl he dated due to her earrings.

So we allowed it when the girls were old enough to ask for it. Due to metal sensitivies my oldest had to have them done twice. (few years apart) and can only wear 14K gold or higher or sterling silver. Anything else and she is prone to infections like me and her grandma. Other DD doesn't have this issue.

I had mine done when I was an infant and I had Devyn's done when she was around 6 months old. I was around 12 when I got my second holes pierced (and I begged my mom for a year or so until she finally relented). My other ear holes were done in my teen years by me with a needle and ice (much to my mothers dismay...)

:lmao:

Most people I know get them done when the kids are babies. My daughter had them done when she was 3 months old- never had any problem with them, she never tugged at them or bothered with them at all and never had any problem with infection. I wanted to get it done while I was still the one taking care of them and could make sure they were cleaned properly etc.

Same here, just had DD's pierced, she's 3 months.

She cried for about a minute, by the time we walked back to the register she was all smiles again. She is oblivious to them now. I like that she didn't have to have the nervous apprehension. I was 4, and I was VERY scared. I can be sure they are cleaned properly, and she doesn't touch them at this age.

I had mine done when I was 11. I had asked my parents for quite a few years... but in the end they got fed up with the magnetic earrings I spend a fortune on and then lost, and took me that very afternoon to have them done.

I knew people in primary school who had had their ears pierces when they were just little babies. Although that was part of their culture.

We had an Hispanic family bring their little girl in to get her ears pierced on their way home from the hospital. Mom and baby still had hospital bracelets, and the baby was itty bitty. We couldn't because we required their first set of shots.
