Next weekend my son will be sponsoring his Eagle Project. If the weather cooperates, after 3 years of planning, he will be building a raised bed garden.

What are some good ideas for refreshments for the scouts? I thought about finger sandwiches or pizza, but I really don't want to have food sitting out or be leftover. I will be getting some non-perishable items like granola bars/snacky food, but I am at a loss for some food that will provide some nourishment. Remember, they will be getting dirty so nothing fancy.

TIA

First of all, I would like to say congratulations to your son from a whole house of Scouts and Scouters!

Granola bars are always a good idea when they are super dirty because they can eat them with the wrapper still half on. Also any trail mix (bought or homemade) already portioned in to paper cups is handy to eat straight out of the cup.
If you are doing drinks, remember to bring a sharpie so they can write their names on there cups/bottles.
That's all I can think of for now, but more will probably come to me later.

GREAT JOB!

My son has helped a lot of his friends with Eagle Projects and these kids work hard!

I would have drinks available (water, gateraid) all the time and then serve the kids some real food at a few set time.

Maybe some muffins and fruits and juice as they start and then some lunch foods later that day. Pizza is always good, hot dogs, pig in the blankets. Keep the sweets to a minimum and remind them to drink. Yep, I know they are scouts but they are still kids!

Just helped a Scout from our Troop with his Eagle Project yesterday - six hours laying pavers around a flag pole and putting in landscaping.

We had Gatorade and water on ice available at all times, individual bags of chips for breaks and then the Mom picked up pizza for lunch. She had plates, napkins and handiwipes ready to go.

Congratulations to your Scout for his hardwork and to his parents too!

So exciting! Congrats to you and your son!

I think all of the suggestions sound great.

Just wanted to say congrats!

Congrats to your son! Mine is dragging through writing his project proposal--- ahhhhh!

Projects he has worked on- as said- water cooler available all times. (Boys are told to bring water bottles. Standard operating procedure in our troop.) Cookies or granola bars/etc snacky food.

Lunches have been pizza, one dad brought his BBQ grill and did hamburgers with chips/etc.
Those can get pricey though, if you have alot of workers (HUNGRY TEENS, lol) or many work days. The last one DS did, they just had a cooler with lunch meat/condiments and PB on the side. At designated lunch time, they could all go in the school to wash up. Made sandwiches, had some chips. Homemade brownies for dessert. Got them fed and sweet at the end left them all happy. :thumbsup2

Our son just finished his Eagle project ( cut a 1/2 mile trail through the woods, and layed wood chips for the local Humane Society-I guess doggies like to walk on trails) and I did this:
At start time; 8:30am I offered juice and a large pan of homemade cinnamon rolls. I just put out paper plates and napkins and the guys and gals dug in.
Lunch was Pizza that I ordered in advance from Papa Johns (w/coupon) just picked them up and brought to the site. You could ask for delivery though, and sodas, plus homemade huge chocolate chip cookies.
Water with cups available throughout the day.
:)

Thanks for the suggestions and congrats. It has been a very long road.

Can you believe I never thought of desserts?

Small breakfast items are also good ideas.

Hopefully, my son will get a good crowd. Pizza may be a good idea. I can see how many people are around at lunch time so I can order a satisfactory amount.
The only place around us that delivers is Domino's. I guess I could them some advance warning.

Woo Hoo! Congrats to DS & to you! It's a long road to Eagle Scout! DS19 got his at age 16! Wonderful accomplishment for the whole family. When DS did his project, I had doughnuts & juice for breakfast & then did hot dogs with chips for lunch. Also had drinks available all day and homemade cookies for dessert. His project was to plant shrubbery around our church so the fellowship hall was available so we had restrooms for handwashing. Hope this helps and again Congrats!!! :yay:
