Eagle Scout Ceremony???

Our friends son was award the eagle scout award. We are invited to the ceremony and "party" What is an appropriate gift to give him?

Is a gift necessary? We've never given gifts at these kind of things.

I dont know that a gift is "necessary," but this award was a big deal in my nephew's scouting life, so we gave him a $50 Bass Pro Shop gift card. He's a big outdoors guy (hunting, fishing, camping, etc.) so this was perfect for him.

When my BIL got his I don't even remember if I gave him a gift or not. If I did it was small enough that I don't remember! LOL

A card is sufficient according to all the Eagle Scouts I know.

I our troop, I don't know anyone who has given a gift to a newly inducted Eagle Scout. We all just congratulate them and there is usually a poster or some sort of memento that every one who attends signs and wishes them well on.

My DS will have his Eagle Scout Court of Honor in the spring!!

My son's best friend just made Eagle Scout. We gave him $50. It wasn't expected but we wanted to. We were really proud of him! It was a great ceremony too. I was surprised.

I hope to have two Eagle Scouts within the next two years. We go to a lot of Eagle Ceremonies. I typically just give a card. If we are especially close to the Eagle, we will give a gift. Last year we gave Centennial commerative pocket knives. There are $1 gold coins which happen to have an Eagle on them.

We are a scouting family so we have typically supported the young man on his trail to Eagle. The youn men know that they have received considerable support along the way and therefore, don't expect a "gift".

My son's Eagle Scout ceremony consisted of a dinner. He received cards with and without money. I was kind of surprised that he received the money but it was from the families of other scouts that were in his troop who knew it was quite an accomplishment and that he had developed relationships with.

It was a Happy day for me to pin that Eagle pin on his uniform. 18 years of Scouts paid off.

I don't know anyone that did NOT give a gift when invited to a court of honor most people brought cards with checks or gift cards.

I'm the wife of an Eagle, oldest DS is an Eagle, and youngest currently working on his Eagle. I've attended I don't know how many Eagle Courts. A card is sufficient. If you feel more is required, go with what you feel is appropriate. I've seen money, knives, eagle related stuff (keychains, etc), statues, gift cards, so the choice is yours.

I think all boy scouts who make Eagle Scout and girl scouts who receive Gold Award deserve to have a big celebration and gifts. When I go to these events, I always bring a nice gift- usually a savings bond they can save for college. I know not everyone does this or thinks it is necessary and that's ok, but just for me personally that's what I like to do for them.

My nephew had his Eagle Scout ceremony a few weeks ago. I made a contribution in his honor to the animal shelter where he did his Eagle Scout project.

Christine that's a wonderful gift. I really like that it's something to help others (not like giving him an iPod or something.) also your gift is probably incredibly meaningful after all the work he did at the shelter. What a good idea!

I will be planning this shortly for my son - just waiting on his board of review - project is complete! As for the previous ceremonies we have attended we always bring a card and a gift card in the amount of approx 20.00 depending on the boy and how well we know him. I look at this event as a great accomplishment however I feel a card is also appropriate too.

A gift is not necessary. A card or letter of congratulations is always good. If you are close to the family and want to give a gift ask the parents for ideas or choose cash so the boy can get something he wants or use the money toward college expenses or the like. Your attendance at the Court of Honor is a gift as well.

My eldest son said his Eagle Scout Court of Honor was more important to him than his high school graduation ceremony.

When I got my Eagle I got a few cards from people. My parents and grandparents gave me a gift. That was it. I didn't expect (or want) anything.

My troop as a whole gave me a "gift", $500 to a local charity, but they do (or did anyway) for everyone that made Eagle.

If I didn't know any charity that the young man was involved in, I'd give him a card with money. Even if they don't expect it and would appreciate just a card I think any one, especially a teenager, would be happy to get a money gift.

As others has said, no gift is expected. However, if the scout is close enough to me, I like to give them a silver "Eagle" $1 US coin minted in the year they earned their eagle.
