E18, should I worry?

I keep reading about this recurring E18 error that seems to be a problem in most Canon cameras. I recently lost my old faithful A310 powershot to a faulty LCD screen (also a recurring problem). I'm just really worried about all these bad possibilities that could happen with my new camera. I'm a highschool student that doesn't have a job (babysitting) and I'm saving up for an A620.

So, should I worry about these errors and go with a different brand?

I am a Canon lover so I may be biased. But none of my cameras (touch wood) ever shown E18. In fact, from every person I know in person (not on the net) who uses Canon, only one had the E18 error... and that's from her A310.

E18 supposedly is the most common error in the A3xx series during the year of A310, but to my knowledge, it is not common amongst Canon camera.

If you feel you've been burned by Canon, I whole heartedly understand (just like I was burned by Olympus in a big-$1,000-way) then choose a different brand. Nikon is also VERY good in the point and shoot department (just like their dSLRs).

I totally can see what you're saying. Out of all the Canon users in the world, only a handful have come on the net to ask for help on E18. I think I will go ahead and save up for it, because it really sounds like a great camera.

:tink: You must be very good at managing your money to save up for that on babysitting money. Keep up your good work... you are on the right path to not get into debt :thumbsup2 Also sending some pixie dust your way with any luck, it will speed up your savings time ;)
