My son is interested in an ereader for his bday. He has a verizon droid (not an iphone). Which e reader would you recommend? I've read some of the recent threads, but they seem to focus on the ability to sync or not to sync with the iphone.
Also, he primarily reads sci fi/fantasy fiction. Don't know if that would make a difference? Most of the places he'd be, he'd have access to wifi. Net surfing is not an issue.

I have an HTC Incredible (android based phone similar to the Droid) and use the free Kindle app as I also have a Kindle 2 - I think this works very well. I also have an Ipod touch and can recommend the Kindle app for that as well.

Keep in mind that as of right now the Kindle doesn't support borrowing library books. The Nook and the Sony do. If he plans on buying all of his books this won't be an issue, but if he plans on borrowing from the library its something you should consider.

With nook you can sync to the new droid app, plus you can side load content from other places. If he reads sci fi, send him to baen.com. There is always tons of really good stuff for free in their library.

I used the Nook and Kindle Apps on my Droid for about 2 days. The backlighting of the phone makes it tough to read and the page is so small it's ridiculous, and the battery dies quicker.

I bought a Nook. I love it. It is an Android operating system as well. You can borrow library books, loan books you've purchased from B&N, and you can download from either your phone or your nook - and get the books on both.

Also, if you buy the Nook, get the cheaper wi-fi only version. Your son's Droid should have just recently (or will very soon - in the next few days) gotten the new 2.2 update. It allows you to create a wifi hotspot with your phone, so no need for the 3G (and extra $50).

Plus, if you do mypoints...you can use your rewards for b & n gift cards for him.

I have a Kindle and the Droid phone app. It works well for me. My DBF has been using it for a while and just stopped using his Kindle entirely. I still like my Kindle but the phone works well when I don't have it with me.

LOVE my Droid and my Kindle!!!

I have been using Kindle for Droid. I love it! I always have my phone on me, so it makes it nice to be able to read when ever I get some down time. I recently downloaded Nook, but haven't had used it much yet. I also tried the eReader from Borders. It seems nice, but so far it's Kindle for me. Since they are all free, have him try all of them to see which he likes the best.

I started reading books on the Nook app on my Droid and loved it so much I bought a Nook. As someone mentioned above, you do not need the one with the 3G for the extra $50. Your son already has that on his phone.

One of the advantages a Nook has is that you can share books for free with anyone with a Nook or the Nook app. Also, the Nook and the Motorola Droid phones use the same charger, so just one to carry. I've found I get about 5 days charge out of my Nook.
