Please reference post #42 & #43 with requests to include in your e-mail about calling up military who are itching to help, but sitting behind a desk....

and on to my original rant.

I want to rent a bus now and go pick these people up myself!

I have just e-mailed my senators, the governor, and the president and encourage you to do the same.

Its a federal disaster area--permission is no longer needed.

Heck--didn't we go to another country and "help" without permission? (Yes--that's me the conservative republican asking that question!!!)

I am not contributing one more red cent to ANY charity--until these people are picked up. I am sorry for the other victims of the hurricane. But I will NOT encourage aid to one area while another is neglected. Forget the gunfire---send the cavalry* of busses now--I promise...they see 100 busses lined up...I'm sure they will behave really quick!!!!

I live fairly close and was wondering about that. I would be so willing to have someone live with us. Especially children. They break my heart everytime I see them on the news suffering.

I wouldn't know where to begin getting someone here, though.

Can someone explain to me how the reporters can hold interveiws with refugees who are holed in on rooftops and then leave them there? Why can't the news people do something!!!

I would give lots of money to pay for a bus to get these people the heck out of there! What about an Army transport? This is ridiculous! And I won't apologize for this rant!

Honestly, I am afraid of what I would encounter. I would LOVE to help these people but at the same time, some of them have guns.

Heck--the man holding the 3 week old just about killed me. The listless children. 1 NURSE---good GOD!

You know--I was on the it takes time bandwagon and I am so sick of hearing the dumb Red Cross ask for money--when they cannot get these people out. Heck--I'd contribute to any company willing to fly into the airspace and do a drop!

And then the stranded tourists---guests in hotels who had vehicles and got out REFUSED to take people with them. Knowing the devestation as it is---I just could not imagine living with myself knowing that I would possibly be personally responsible with someones death. Their story just about broke my heart. The hotel manager gave them a key to her personal apartment in the quarter where they are hiding from the mobs.

You & me both! I really, really thought about filling my SUV up with supplies today & driving down there. How hard can it be to get some water & MRE in to those people! If they can move Harry Connick, Jr. in there, & FOX, & CNN & MSNBC -- why can't they take a convoy of water & food in?

Every bus that goes in to pick up a load of people should be loaded with supplies. Drop off the supplies, pick up the people & repeat!!

Right--and then permanent marker the hands of people who get the supply---so that they don't jump to the front of the next line.

I'll go halfsies with you! I posted this on another thread:

This is what frustrates me about the situation. You can take people out on buses but not bring in trucks of supplies? Bush, news choppers and small planes are flying over and seeing the devastation but we can't fly supplies in? Even for an air drop? Trent Lott is able to drive in and view the damage but no one can bring in water? Medical teams are making it in. And our government is telling people to be patient? It's freakin' Thursday already. Four days in this heat with no water? With people sitting in their own filth?Way too long. If we can get supplies into Bagdad with unfriendly groups shooting surely we can get them into New Orleans.

Please note, I'm not "bashing" the above-mentioned folks -- just pointing out that some access is there.

And I don't care if a Democrat, Republican or monkey holds the office of the presidency. There was advanced warning that Katrina was going to hit and hit hard. Our leadership, on all levels, should have been better prepared to give assistance.

I saw a Walmart commercial on one of the cable news channels the other night...the one about them talking about how they have the most sophisticated distribution network and I thought Hell, the government might as well contract out to WalMart to get supplies in and people out!! Of course I am not thinking rationally, and I am being sarcastic, but at this point I am sick of being rational!!

So, send guards with the supplies or station them at the drop point. Once the pressure is alleviated somewhat, the violence will likely die down, freeing up more guards.

We just need to do something, and NOW !
