We bid, paid through pay pal and never received the product we paid for. The seller has a recent pattern of this (I think there are 4-5 people in the same boat.) Paypal said it could be up to 30 days. Should I cancel it through my credit card, which is connect to my paypal? We've only bid on 3 things so far, don't think we will in the future. Not worth the risk or the time involved to figure the whole thing out. Would love any advice.

Personally I would advise my credit card company that you completed a transaction via Paypal and did not receive the goods and Paypal is looking into it. Always good to cover all fronts.

How long have you been waiting on it? How was it sent?

I bid on something and won it. On January 4th it was mailed Parcel Post. It took until February 3rd to get it. Apparently Parcel Post is way way way behind in certain areas. It may just be "in the mail".

I had that problem with an e-bay dealer too. I went through paypal and got my refund back in a week or so. It is frustrating, I know, but just keep e-mailing the seller, e-bay and paypal until they take care of you.

Eventually, the person that ripped me off got booted off of e-bay, so they do actually do something.

Im going through that same thing now. Paid for the itme on Jan 9, and still havent got it. I wrote to her 2 times before I filed with paypal {Jan 25}. Then of course she wrote me and blammed it on her boyfriend handling her ebay buisness while she was out of town. Also she made a crude remark to me stating "I hope you dont think I was trying to rip you off for 5.00". First of all that $5.00 is money we work hard for and ive seen people fight harder over far less money in the grocery store when overcharged. She said she would send it ASAP.... and here we are{Feb 7} :sad2: still waiting on the item to come. She did do a follow up letter asking me to cancel the complaint with paypal. well im doing that until I see my item in my hand! The nerve.
Tomorrow marks the 14th day paypal has to make a decison on this so im hoping to get my $$ back then im leaving her negative feedback.

Feel free to file disputes with PayPal and your credit card co. (both of them) within the deadlines they specify. Do not cancel a dispute to give more time for a package to arrive.

A seller who is slow in shipping always has the choice of sending the item by overnight shipping (no extra charge to buyer).

That depends on whether it was over any borders or not.

If you send over the Canadian border for instance, there is no such thing as overnight delivery. 9/11 changed many things and that's one of them. The absolute fastest it can get to Canada is about 4 to 5 days even if you pay for overnight delivery because of gvt restrictions across borders.

And yes, the mail told me that when I wanted to send something across the border to the US and 4 to 5 days is the fastest I've ever recieved something when its going the opposite direction (my fiance sends me stuff all the time. It's been a month since he sent my Christmas gift and it hasn't shown up. Yesterday he called them. They said its been lost so they had to reimburse his money).

Give the seller some time but do report it to your credit card company and to paypal. Don't cancel the payment yet but do just give them time.

you need to report the e-mail to e-bay. They will take care of her for that. and whatever you do, don't remove your complaint. It is people like that that make e-bay not so much fun to shop.

This happened to us and since the product was coming from Hong Kong we allowed extra time because he said he shipped it - we missed the deadline and are out $10.00. Not much but it was my son's own money that is hard earned savings. The man also gave us a hard time because we didn't buy the optional insurance. Well the item was $1.00 (shipping was $9.00) - the insurance was $6.00. Who pays $6.00 to insure a $1.00 item? I'm sure if we made a claim they would have given us $1.00 not the shipping amount. I've never paid 600% for insurance! anyway lesson learned - ebay is a dangerous game!

I have bought from ebay but have never sold. The reason that the shipping is high & the item is low is so that the seller gets more for his item. The more the item sells for, the more the seller has to pay ebay for listing. shipping is something that is excluded in that....so if you charge $9 to ship something, sell it for a $1 you only pay ebay based on the $1 you sold it for. It may cost you less than $4 to ship out, you just made a $5 profit that you don't have to pay ebay for!?! I couldn't agree with you more, you know it isn't costing them that much to ship it. Even with a handling fee included, some of the s&h fee's charged are a joke & ebay should take notice to that...they are getting ripped off as well.

That isn't always true. If I were to ship a vintage postcard or piece of ephemera insured via registered mail it would only cost $1.70 for postage plus $11.00 for insured registered mail service. Not all postal systems operate or charge the same way USPS does.

In this case the item was being shipped from Hong Kong so I bet shipping was not cheap. I've both bought and sold with Ebay. While I've had some bad experiences with sellers, most of my bad experiences are with Buyers - not paying, not reading payment terms and trying to send me an "unaccepted" method, etc.

Sellers have the right to charge a handling fee just as buyers have the right to shop elsewhere. I know when I see an auction w/ridiculous shipping I pass it right by just as I would leave an item at the store if it is priced too high. I keep this in mind with my auctions and charge little to no handling charges.

Selling on Ebay takes a lot of time and follow up on the part of the seller for slim profit margins that Ebay fees erode. A handling fee of $1 (or more if it is a large item that requires more time/effort to ship) is not inappropriate - think of the fees catalog companies charge as "handling" fees.

I do think though, back to the OP that the buyer should submit a case with Paypal and the charge company lest she be out the $$. I would. In fact, I may have to with a recent win which is MIA and the seller won't respond to my emails (and I refuse to hunt them down).
