Dyson Vacuums Worth the Money?

I'm thinking of buying a Dyson. Either the 24 or 33 model. Both cost around $399. I feel like I go through vacuums constantly, every 6-9 months. I always buy about a $90 model. Last one was the Bissell Cleanview. Worked for 6 months and now the suction isn't as strong and the attachment gets no suction at all.
So what does everyone think? Do you love your Dyson? Why?

We have had ours for 7 years And it still works great. I know that Consumer Reports rates others higher

LOVE my Dyson. It is lightweight, works perfectly on all different thicknesses or carpet, my wood floor and tile. No bags to remember to change, just empty the canister after each use. The canister fills up kind of fast though. I in doing the whole house I have to empty a few times in between.

I've had my Dyson for six (or is it seven) years and it still works exactly like the day I took it out of the box.

LOVE my Dyson. A couple of years ago we moved from a home that had central vac and we got a Dyson. I prefer the Dyson. It is the best vac we have ever had. :)

I have a Dyson DC28 Animal that I just got on Black Friday. It works well, but I don't think it sucks as well on the edges as my old Miele did. I can't speak for its longevity--time will tell.

I purchased a Miele about 10 years ago because I was breaking vacuums right and left (every 6-9 months, like you). I left it in Oregon with my daughter when I moved up here. It had great side suction, so I rarely needed to "edge," and I know Mieles are sturdy since it never broke. The one thing I prefer with the Dyson over the Miele (which I think was the overall better vacuum) is the bag system. Dyson's bagless system is sweet as long as you don't have allergies. The Miele bags were a fortune.

LOVE, LOVE my Dyson. I have the purple pet hair model and it works great at getting the cat and dog fur up! In the past, I had a Roomba and some other brand that just did not get the fur up.

We bought our first Dyson 6/7yrs ago and its still going strong. Its amazing.
However around Christmas I got a Dyson ball (don't remember which one but its a full-size) and its just not as good. The suction isn't as good, the attachment barely picks anything up (our old one picks up everything-its strong!) and it just gets clogged MUCH easier than our old Dyson. I do however love how it automatically adjusts on different surfaces. We keep the new one downstairs b/c we have wood and random area rugs and carpets. Its SO much easier to vacuum now.... but its just not as good.

We have had ours for 2 years now. We have the purple animal, canister vac. I would buy it again in a heart beat.

We are on 8 years with our purple pet Dyson. I still love the heck out of it. The day we bought it we did a test. First we vacuumed out living room with our old vacuum. Then we immediately vacuumed the same carpet with the Dyson. The Dyson sucked up a disgusting amount of dirt, dust, and hair that the other one missed. With 4 dogs and a cat in the house then, it was exactly what we needed.

LOVE my Dyson....I know they are expensive but SO worth the money. Its amazing on how much stuff it picks up! :thumbsup2

Love love love:). Have had ours for 10 yes and had one $25 repair done to a hose, it's amazing!!!

Another yes vote, 8 (maybe 9) years young, works like day 1 & I vacuum everything with it: garage, cars, basement. Purple animal model.

I HATE my dyson! I've had it for 5 yrs and the only reason I kept it that long was because it was still under warranty. It spent more time at best buy being serviced than it did at home with me. Maybe we just got a dud vacuum but best buy refused to replace it. they did tell me that they get more dysons come back for service than any other vacuum they sell. My neighbor has the same one I do and they don't like it either. My warranty is now up so the next time it quits working into the trash it will go.

Love my dyson. Bought it refurbished 9 years ago. Works great, never had to service it yet. Every other month or so I have to clear the brush head because the hair it picks up tends to wrap around it affecting how well the vacuum cleans. But it's no big deal to clean.

We have had our purple Dyson for almost 8 years and it still works great. It was a refurb model from Amazon. Recently, I thought it was starting to go because the suction was terrible on the hose. Once I cleared out a big clog, it works great again.

We have 2 dogs & 3 kids so it gets a good workout each time and my only complaint is that it's a little heavy & hard to use on steps.

We are at 8+ years with our purple animal dyson. So far, so great-only the hose got a crack in it. We duct taped it for now, but will get a new hose at some point. Durable, I am not nice to vacuums.

I have never owned a Dyson, but I do read Consumer Reports and Dysons never get very good ratings. Vacuums are rated in the most recent issue (March 2013); you might want to take a look. The Dyson Animal is rated #24 of the uprights rated, two more Dysons are rated, coming in at #40 and #41. The top rated bagged upright is the Hoover Windtunnel Anniversary edition ($230).

Seem to be many better and much cheaper choices than Dysons.
