Dyson problems

Does anyone have problems with their Dyson making a terrible grinding noise?

I've talked to Dyson 3 times about it and they claim it is a 'safety feature' that is activated when the brush can't turn.

However, it does this every time I vacuum. They have had me take apart the brush housing and clear it out and reset it. That does fix the problem until the next time I vacuum. After a few minutes the noise happens again.

I swear there is something bent in the housing that is catching the brush but they won't entertain that as an option. They also don't believe me that the brush rotates even when the noise is happening. It is like talking to a brick wall.

Has anyone had successful dealings with their customer service? This vacuum HAS been in for service once for the problem. I just want them to exchange this machine. Hopeless cause??

I've never had a problem with mine. Can you send your Dyson to them and have them check it out?

Mine does that occasionally too - not every time I use it, but I know the sound. If it's that often, I'd be persistant with them. It's an awful sound!

I have 2 Dysons, and both make that noise when I use on a carpet that is too thin, it's like the suction is too strong for the rug, it happens when I use it on small area rugs. Nothing wrong with machine just too powerful for thin rug. I would suggest changing the setting when using it on the rug it's making noise on to use without brush.

I did have a problem awhile back. It sounded okay while I was actually vacuuming, but as soon as I set it up right, it would sound really loud. It turned out that I had somehow sucked up a pencil. I started taking apart all of the little pieces that come loose. It was clogged up where the hose enters the machine in the back. It's kind of a pain, but there are a lot of little pieces that actually come off. Try taking them all off and making sure there is no clog anywhere. The one that caused my problem was on the back of the housing. Good luck!
