Hi ladies! We're having a sea-themed wedding and in looking at bouquet pics a loooong while ago in the planning process, I found these two pics which I immediately fell in love with for my bouquet. I must have looked at tons of pics but never really had the "Ah ha!" for any look in particular...until these. (Sorry if the pix are huge.)

I knew they were roses that have been dyed blue since they don't occur naturally. We had our planning session, everything was all right. In working with Rose, she explained to us that they have to dye them, etc. etc. We also agreed to have the greenery in the pics swapped out for (green) dendrobium orchids...who knew DF would have a fave flower and I don't! :confused3

Putt-putting on my merry way I decided to google dyed blue roses one day and came up with pros and cons. One [unconfirmed and unsubstantiated] comment said the dye can run...
Blue dye + gown = :scared1:
I'm sure it all depends on who dyes them and how, which I doubt Dis Floral would do anything other than a fabulous job.

My question is...has anyone used dyed blue roses in their floral...or do you know anyone who has? (Any Disney or non-Disney comments alike). I could have sworn that I saw a previous bride on here who had them but I could be completely out of my gourd (also a definitely possibility).

We reeeeeeeally want them since no other flower has the vibrancy of these that we like. I'm just a little nervous I guess also because they cost more since they're hand dyed.

Any stories, experiences or comments are much appreciated. Thanks!!! :goodvibes

First off, Kristin - that bouquet is just gorgeous!! :lovestruc

For my two cents - I was in a wedding with blue roses and I can't remember there being a problem. But it wouldn't have mattered - the BM dresses were blue as well! :rotfl:

Ok I think I can help here. I was a florist for a while and can say that yes dyed blue roses CAN run, BUT it is usually not a problem if the stems are kept very dry.

The roses are dyed by putting blue dye in the water the roses are in, the color travels up to the petals, much like blood flows in the human body. (I am apparently Science Sam today lol). Once the rose is dry to the touch it is set... now if it gets wet again (water or more commonly sweaty palms:eek:) it COULD run, there is really no way to assure that it won't. So if you have a white dress and are concerned I would advise against blue roses for that reason.

Now as far as off beat flowers that may work for you, have you thought about Delphiniums? They usually vary in color from deep purple to light blue (with a bold blue in the middle) and are pretty inexpensive and easy to find, yet they look different. Thats might work. Also what about eithier dark blue hydrangea or iris?

Still want blue roses? I would just make sure they were very dry and wrapped tightly around the base so you don't run the risk of them running as much. Have the rose stems cut very short without the bottom exposed. Also when you de-thorn roses dye can leak out from those spots as well. Also, see if DFTW can spray the roses insead of dying them, this can prevent some leaking, but again since dye/spray can travel through a flower (the blood in the human body analogy) it may still pose a problem...

HTH!

My boyfriend, now fiance', bought me blue roses once because he knew that blue is my fav color. Anywho, the florist spray painted them & they were a mess! I felt so bad because my bf had really looked into getting me dyed blue roses & the florist told him they could dye them & you could definitely tell that they were spray painted & the paint got all over my fingers & ran & made a mess.

I guess I'm not much help with this one as to if roses can truly be dyed blue.

Or use silk blue roses. Disney does beautiful silks. Very high quality. I did my whole bouquet in silks and no one could believe they weren't real.

Why did I not think of that lol! This is one of those weeks were I completely overcomplicate things lol!:rotfl2:

Thanks so much for all of your help! I'm definitely going to ask Rose her opinion on the roses vs. using blue iris too...I didn't even think of those. Thanks again!

so pretty...blue is my favorite color...everything in my house is blue...and my wedding theme will hopefully be "Shades of Blue'

...who couldnt love that bouquet???
