Thinking of getting the DxDP for our next mother daughter trip so that we can try some signature dining. Is it better to have a rental car rather than attempting DxDP with Disney transportation.

My adult daughter and I just used WDW transportation just allow yourselves some time however you do need to do this (allow for time frame) if you rent a car also as traffice can be heavy. Have a great time. :cool1:

We've done the DxDDP twice without a rental car and didn't feel like Disney transportation was a problem. It does take a little more planning, though, so that you aren't spending a lot of time en route.

we prefer the ultimate flexibility that having your own car offers...we've done the DDP and the DxDP and loved being able to schedule resort restaurants wherever/whenever we wanted. "Traffic" is never so heavy that it takes longer than Disney transportation...we usually figure 15-30 minutes with the car, but 60+ for using Disney transport. And some places are really time-consuming to get to (like Turf Club at Saratoga Springs...great restaurant, but not easy to get to unless you want a fairly long walk from Downtown Disney bus stops.) With a car, it's easy to get to. Same with Olivia's (Old Key West) and Maya Grill (Coronado Springs)...great places to eat and easy to get to with a car. Once you catch onto how the traffic flows around Disney it's very quick to go from here to there within Disney.

We did the DxDP & Signature Dining with Disney transportation, and planned our dining with parks or proximity to the resort, to minimize the travel. Epcot/ DHS is a boat ride or walk to dining at the Boardwalk/ Beach club restaurants; MK is a monorail to MK resorts or boat to WL or FW; and AK bus to AKL. I am all about minimizing the amount of WDW transportation.

We used taxis with our deluxe dining plan . Cheaper than a rental car, faster than disney transportation, and safer if you like adult beverages. Have agreat trip.

I have to say that either a rental car or taxis make the DXDP much easier to use.

Last December after enjoying a wonderful meal at The Flying Fish, there is no way I wanted the hassle of trying to get back to the AKL at 9pm (DHS where I went for the day was closed and I didn't buy park hoppers so I couldn't go through Epcot). I grabbed a cab and was back to AKL in no time at all.

Where are you staying? We stayed at the Poly and many ADRs were just a monorail away. For those that were not on the monorail (e.g., Sanaa), we drove.

Yep, that is what we did our last trip. We were on the DxDP and I made sure our ADRs were either in the park that we were going to that day or at a resort that was near the park we were at. It helped out quite a bit. The only problem we had with Disney transportation was that on our DHS day we had an early breakfast at Cape May Cafe at BC and we were staying at CR. We had to take the DHS bus over to DHS and then thought we would have to walk over to BC because the boats were not in operation yet. However, luckily a bus driver noticed what we were doing and since he was going over to the BC anyways, he offered to give us a lift.

My sentiments exactly

We did the DxDP last trip and I planned our meals around the park we would be in for the day. I also planned our park touring with our meals in mind. We'd usually end up in the proximity of our ADR location or the gates just in time to check in or hop over to a neighboring resort. In doing it that way, we lost very little time traveling to meals and that was very important to us since we were doing 21 TS meals in 7 days.
