Needing some DIS love this morning. :grouphug:

We had put the deposit down the other night on a Poly CL room after DW told me to "go nuts" on a dream week when she got a big insurance settlement. Telling her the whole price didn't even faze her, but last night she casually asked on the per-night room cost and imploded when I (foolishly) told her. :scared:

We just went from Poly CL to ASSp. :sad1:

Hello fellow Buckeye! :wave2:

Sorry to hear you had to cancel the Poly. If the total price didn't faze her, wonder why she balked at the per-night rate? You definitely would have been getting more for that price at the Poly CL than at ASSp. At least she didn't tell you to cancel it all together, though, so that's something, right? :thumbsup2

That is a huge jump. Too bad you couldn't just edge it down to Wilderness Lodge. At least you are still going to Disney. Have fun!

Yeah, I can't break down the price for my DH either. We just work out a total budget and I figure out the specifics. Otherwise he can't get over the amount.

If you really want to try Poly, maybe you could work out a split stay. (???) I've stayed at ASSp and POP in the off season. They're fine, especially if you spend most of the time in the parks. But you won't feel like you're splurging... Or maybe go to something in between, like a mod or akl or wl? Or rent dvc points somewhere....

I agree that's quite a drop! Maybe a mod would be possible? I feel your pain...I wouldn't want to drop that drastically! At any rate, you'll be at Disney, so how bad can it be? Enjoy!

BTW DH and I will be spending the weekend in Columbus for just a bit of a getaway.;) (I'd rather be getting away to Disney of course!:rolleyes1)

I try to look at the whole quote instead of just what we're paying per night. If I can keep the entire trip to 1200-1500 per person, then I'm happy. Of course, we get to stay more nights if we choose a moderate instead of a deluxe. We fell in love with Coronado last time, even more than our usual favorite (WL).

Wow, that was drastic!

How about WL or AKL in a non club level room, that would have made a nice dent. Or even a mod. I'd make her pony-up since she told you to go nuts!

I like the idea of a split stay too, 1/2 in a value, 1/2 in a deluxe (do the value first).

Love these ideas. Seconded! :thumbsup2

For various reasons, the only moderate under discussion has bee POFQ BUT...>my< WDW vacation is being followed by her New Orleans vacation and to her there is nothing like the "real" FQ.

A Poly standard room may be back on the table though as we haven't actually changed anything yet. :rolleyes1

That's a good compromise. :goodvibes I honestly preferred our standard Poly room from two years ago over our CL stay at the Poly last year. You still get immersed in the beauty of being there at the Poly. :thumbsup2

I agree with the poster above. I understand that this is a dream week", but I don't think that it necessarily has to be a CL level room. Other rooms would be just as nice in my opinion.

To be honest, we are happiest at the moderate resorts. Even with the Florida Resident discounts, we still prefer the lower cost of the moderates and don't feel like we are losing out on anything for us. I also understand that every person is different and that other resort choices may not appeal to you and will not be an option.

Regardless, I hope that you find somewhere where you both are comfy with and have a wonderful time!

What about renting points from a DVC member? It looks like your trip is soon but you could at least check on availability at AKL or SSR.

A disney vacation IS going crazy because disney is expensive no matter where you are!! I'm with her, I would have trouble enjoying the Poly CL because for us that money could be better used elsewhere.

Have you checked the 30% room-only discounts on the web-site? Not sure what your dates are but BWI is 30% in Sept. and it's our second favorite next to the POLY. We just couldn't get a good price at the POLY this time.

OP
you know I kinda feel the same way your spouse does. .we have stayed club level, poly actually for 4th of july week , in the past..amazing trip, have also done other deluxes and mods. We love POR actually consider it our home away form home. I am deciding on our getaway right now and even with the % off, the poly room is over 550 a night....I just cant seem to do it this time...just feel like its too much money even tho we had a great time last time, even contemp was 500+
having vacationed elsewhere outside of "disney" real deluxes at 500+. a night offer much more, so for this smaller trip I am seriously considering a mod again...its actually frustrating...Ive never felt so conflicted about a trip :lmao:but keeping it all in perspective, I mean it is DISNEY after all...not life altering decison after all :rotfl:
where ever you wind up, have a great time Pixie dust your way :wizard:

While we love staying CL at the Poly, we dropped down to a standard Garden View room this year and saved a fortune. We just don't feel like CL is really worth THAT much extra anymore. Years ago it was, but the cutbacks just keep on coming.

The only things I think I'm really going to miss are the view (and I can go to the beach for that any time I want) and having access to the lounge after checkout on the last day.

The entire resort is beautiful so I think the savings will be well worth the step down.

That's too bad the Poly is great! Yea it's steep but it's so worth it especially CL! Staying st the Poly is an experience! Look for a room only code! Seriously! It's the only way I stay deluxe and CL!
