DW newbie needing direction

I find my way around DLR with ease, but I feel totally overwhelmed thinking about a trip to DW. I don't know where to start--I notice I don't even know how many parks there are. I am open to any suggestions including where to go for information and what to read. On DLR disboards there's a link for first time DW experts. Is this a link that is available on these boards. I am planning an adult trip in late spring, probably April. Thank you!

There are 4 parks and 2 water parks. If you're looking for a book, the Unofficial Guide is a useful starting point. You'll get tons of useful info here too.

DW is huge compared to DL. Read a lot before you make plans.

As bc7ate9 says, check out the guide. Most libraries have it.

I second easywdw.com. When planning my first trip back in 2010, I found this great board and learned so much. I also learned a lot by reading others trip reports.

Agree that both books and their associated websites are excellent resources. Once you've familiarized yourself with them, the different forums on the Dis can answer specific questions.

If you don't already have the planning video, go the the WDW website and order one. They're free. YouTube is your friend as well. There are TONS of virtual tours and guest videos. Heck, I go watch them just when I'm in withdrawals. These boards are a wonderful planning tool, as well as all the other resources that have been mentioned. My one piece of advice to anyone going on their 1st visit: unless you're going to live there for a few months, there is literally no way to do everything, Don't try. Pick a certain amount of "must-do"s (I have one for each day we're there) and make your plans around those. Fill in the rest of your plans as you can. For instance, on our last trip, we really wanted to watch the Electric Water Pageant, have a pre-park open breakfast at Crystal Palace, and have more time to explore the BoardWalk. So, I made those plans first, then filled in the rest of our plans. Keep your plans as simple as possible and enjoy every moment.
